iOS 5 audio distortion

I have several i devices and every one I've updated to iOS 5 has the same issue with serious audio distortion during music playback. It isn't related to EQ because this is off. I can put an updated device side by side with a device running 4.3.x and play the exact same song using the same headset and the iOS 5 device sound quality is horrible. This occurs on both the iTouch and iPad(1). I'll test it on the 4S this evening but I have little hope of improvement. It is so bad as to be unusable.
