I have around 6.3 mbps download but as I’m on ADSL I only have approx 0.4 mbps upload therefore the time I have estimated it will take* to do an iCloud backup is around 15 hrs for my iPhone (2.8 GB backup, size according to iCloud). In fact if I do a full backup on Ipad the size is 4.5 GB which would take over 24 hrs to complete.I could uncheck Apps from the back up list to reduce this size but that sort of defeats the point.
*
Does the backup time decrease for subsequent backups after the initial one?

I can only answer that subsequent backups are delta updates (so only changes that were made since the last successful backup)

Yes my initial backup took about 3 hours but now only takes a few min.

Restores are much faster obviously, I used the restore feature to set up the 4S and it worked perfectly.
