iOS 5 music app album art issues

I hate how Apple screwed this one up. Ever since I got my first iPhone 4 years ago, the one feature that I was extremely satisfied with was the iPod app. Even with the limited resources the phone had by then, the album art simply always was there - instant. Coverflow worked like a breeze from day one. Awesome. Until iOS 5.

I noticed it first in the iOS 5 beta I had on my phone. I didn't put much thought into it by then, because after all, it was a beta. The issue I encountered was the slow loading of cover art. After I skipped a song while the phone was locked, it took a second or so to load the cover art. Also, the app just wasn't really "snappy" like it was with iOS 4.

Today I still have this issue. It annoys me. Coverflow also isn't working right, whenever I do a quick swipe the phone just can't keep up with loading the album art. I don't understand this at all. It's not due to the retina display since I had 0 problems with album art on iOS 4 with my iPhone 4. It's really since iOS 5 dropped that I don't like my music app as much .

Also, album art simply doesn't show sometimes. It does in the music app, but not when I lock my phone. Or it might show the wrong album art... All very annoying to me.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

I've only noticed issues after I started using iTunes match,But after it cache's it's usually fine

Are you manually syncing through iTunes or are you using Match? I know Match was having this issue. I sync with iTunes and haven't had this problem.

I download OTA,I cut the cord pretty much with photo stream and iTunes match and the whole iCloud service

I have had some issues getting the album art to load as well. After I thought I had it all fixed, it seems some is missing again? I use iTunes match as well.

Still don't understand why there are all the albums I have in the iCloud even though I switched the "Show all music" off. All screens show only what I actually have on the phone, just Cover Art shows all, which is maybe cause of the lagging while the Cover Flow still "refreshes" the Cover Arts from the iCloud. Not even mentioning loads of CoverArts missing after iTunes match activation.

I wish Apple would have just embedded the artwork into the individual tracks on their servers....The artwork issue with iTunes Match would be nonexistent.

I have endless problems with art missing, but even more aggravating is how iTunes Match has made my Music app slower than it was on my original iPhone from 2007. This is by far the biggest downgrade for me since iOS 5. The Music app just plain sucks now. It's not at all the smooth experience it has been the previous 4-5 years.

The art problems are really, really strange too. I'll have art show up on the lock screen while music is played, but then it's missing (when unlocked) while the SAME SONG is still playing? WTF? And then the little thumbnail in the top right corner on the track listing also will randomly show or not show art. It acts as if these three different pieces of UI require different images, when obviously the lock screen and the are screen in the app are using the same image. I mean how could one show the art and the other not? Bugs everywhere!

I don't have the source link handy, but WSJ and others reported that iOS 5.1.0 will include some fixes related to album art when using iTunes Match. We'll see if that comes to fruition (possibly tomorrow).

The issue is a corrupted media database on your iPhone. This fixed the issue as it rebuilds the database (without a factory reset):
