Hi

I'm after some help.

I have an Iphone 3gs and want to upgrade to IOS 5. I've downloaded IOS 5 from ITunes (I have the latest version of ITunes as well) and after it extracts the software and tries to restore from backup I get an error 1394.

I've removed some lines in the hosts file and tried a new user profile with admin rights on my PC (after advice from Apple support) but i still get the error message.

So I have a PC with ITunes that sync's with my phone and I have a backup. I have music in ITunes, photo's and apps.

To see if it is a problem with my PC I was going to try the following;

Connect my iphone to my work PC, upgrade to IOS 5 and then go back to using it with my home PC.

Step1
If I connect to the work PC I assume the PC will wipe the phone and then try to upgrade to IOS 5. Hopefully this is successful.

Step2
I then connect the phone back to my home PC and it then wipes itself again. It then connects to my authorised ITunes account and the phone is now back as it was but on IOS 5.

My questions are as follows;
1) Is my logic correct or should I do this process another way?
2) Is the error 3194 a problem connecting to Apple’s servers? I’m concerned that if I do this then and I can’t connect to Apple’s servers then I have a useless phone.
3) If I took my phone to an Apple store (Genius appointment) would they upgrade it for me?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks

Steve
