I have looked at other 3GS threads and most people seem happy and positive - so without raining on their parades, thought it would be better to start a new thread.

So I can't get restore my iPhone without iTunes insisting on this new update and currently my phone is a paperweight...and/or about to get thrown out of my window!

I am stuck on the new Configure screen
I have put iPhone in DFU mode, clicked option/restore but get no drop down menu with previous versions...

ALSO it says 'try again'...i have, again and again and again!

My 3GS is Orange/Jailbroken
iTunes is now v. 10 with IOS 5 update
I have tried and failed to upgrade my iPhone to IOS 5

Please help - i'm phoneless and frustrated!

What you need to do is make a custom ipsw with whatever your using to JB and click preserve baseband. Load that via itunes to your phone in dfu mode and you will get your service back. If using Redsnow then once thats loaded open it up then JB again :)

the problem is with baseband 6.15.00 used to JB previously :)

1. Go grab the latest redsn0w

2. Go to Extras and point it at Apple's stock .ipsw for iOS 5

3. Go back to the main menu and start the jailbreak option (although you won't actually jailbreak it)

4. Follow the instructions to put your phone into DFU mode

5. At the tickbox screen, just tick "Install baseband"

6. Proceed and let redsn0w do the rest

Once the process finishes, your SIM should be working finally and your carrier recognised. If you haven't already activated iOS5, it should become possible to do so now.
