Hi all I hope you can help.
My friend gave me his iPhone 3gs to jailbreak a while ago when we were still on 5.1.1. All went great at the time. Like most I’ve upgraded to iPhone4 but he loves his 3gs so who am I to argue.
12 months on and it’s that time again, he has now passed it to me again and asked me to upgrade it to ios 6.(after reading the new update from redsn0w)
I need to preserve the baseband because he needs to still use ultasn0w to unlock it. Plus he needs it untethered.
I did all my homework as per usual.
It’s on the old bootrom (2009 week 29)
Baseband is on 05.13.04
I downloaded ios 6 and redsnOw 09.15b3 from the appropriate sites.
I’ll cut a long story short, (as we all know how the rest goes)
09.15b3 allows you to retain your old BB without customising the ipsw, which is great, if I could get it to work.
Half way through the upgrade while retaining the BB I keep getting “iTunes error 1”.
Can anyone shine a light on this?

You are using Extras/Even more/Restore?

Thank's for your quick reply.
I tried that way plus I've tried Extras/Even more/custom IPSW
It then pops up do you want to preserve baseband, click yes. Then goes about half way and I get the itunes error 1.
I don't think I'm missing anything but I could be wrong, if all else fails I'll just update to 6 using itunes but select the IPSW then upgrate to ipad baseband then downgrade baseband, I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this with the updated redsn0w though.
What do you think?

Redsn0w has not been updated fully for iOS6.
It cannot do baseband preservation accurately.
Use Sn0wbreeze - PC only

I've used redsn0w loads but I've never used Sn0wbreeze, I think I will be later though :):)
Just out of curiosity has anyone tried to do the same with 6.01

You're not being clear…

Extras/Even More/Custom IPSw does not exist…

You can either use Extras/Custom IPSW (the old way) which will probably get you the error 1 ( a BB error)

Download the 6.01 and the 6.0 IPSW

now go to Extras/Select IPSW and select the 6.0 IPSW

next

Use Extras/Even more/Restore
Select the 6.01 IPSW

during the process select yes to BB preserve

If that fails use sn0wbreeze

Oh sorry my bad I'm at work at the moment. My memory isn't what is used to be. Yeah it was Extras/Custom IPSW and I still got the error.
I'll defiantly be using sn0wbreeze.
I'll post back later with my results.
Thank you your help is much appreciated.
Also cheers to dhlizard

try redsn0w Extras/even more/restore method first, my guess is your are missing some steps...

Redsn0w all the way.
I started all over again from the start, god knows where exactly I was slipping up but as advised I went straight to restore method and used 6.0.1 but when I got to the jailbreak I pointed to 6.0 and it sailed through with no problems at all.
So thanks again TriJetHero for all your help it's much appreciated, I hope to repay you for your advice soon.
Regards
