Hello,

i've seen some videos on youtube like iOS 6 versus iOS 12 or basically how iOS 6 is like this.

One thing I've always noticed is that despite older iPhone models like iPhone 5, iPhone 4S animations under iOS 6 are somehow more fluid for the whole range of iOS than today.

This applies not only to opening and closing apps, but also to the iOS 6 UISwitch On/Off animation under Settings*, Notification Center, Push Notifications, Pull to Refresh, loading circle, all Stock App settings and many more...

Simply everything is better tuned.

* Under iOS 12, many on/off animations are broken, e.g.

- Open App Store.app create Apple ID and confirm the terms of use

- Wi-Fi, Personal Hotspot, at Settings.app

- Set up an alarm in the Clock.app.

- Settings -> Accessibility -> Bold text (activate the option, then a message will appear and tap Cancel).

- etc.

It is best to compare an iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S with iOS 6 against iPhone XS Max with iOS 12.

I guess why. It's because of the design. Under iOS 6 design there was a lot of drawing and a lot of detail work.

Starting with iOS 7 (flat design) there were hardly any details and very economical with colors, shadows etc.

Actually, you'd think that if you did everything less, everything there would have to become more fluid or not worse. But in reality it is exactly the opposite that happens it has become worse and it no longer feels natural.

If the Apple designers want a little more colors, then they take a blur effect (which also further strains the GPU) so they don't have to draw. blur effect takes the colors out of the background image without love - see iOS 7 - iOS 12 Dock. But then Apple shows how much they are interested in the design. nothing at all, they have become listless and weak.

I once heard that this flat design should help the developers, e.g. you can adapt to new display sizes much faster, be more scalable, save costs for the companies, etc.

Do you notice anything? Only for developers and cost savings for the companies! What about the users, where does he stand? If he is not the focus, then something is wrong.

Why did Scott Forstall have to leave Apple? I don't think because of Apple Maps glitch.

He was one of the last who created a friendly design for the users with Steve Jobs and his team.

In the meantime, iOS 12 delivers far more features than iOS 6, despite the crappy animation. System fluidness is important, but this is just part of it. When app support is nonexistent, iOS is less useful.

This topic has been beat several times over already, and Steve won’t revive, Scott won’t come back.

Oh, when apple goes user hostile, Apple was succeeded. Sometimes, it is needed for company to move on by ignoring customers.

OP: I feel you, trust me, I do. You can thank all the cry babies who complained that iOS 6 was stale and boring, which is why we got 7. I have been counting for 6 years now that it comes back. I am not loosing hope.

I think iOS 12 animations are a lot better than iOS 8, or 9's. I think 11 had the worst, most stuttering I could see. Maybe 13 will finally bring back 60 fps animations.

I feel it too. That's why I downgraded my iPhone 4S from iOS 9 to iOS 6.

Apple still signed iOS 6 for iPhone 4S.

iPhone 4S was last iPhone where Steve Jobs was 100% directly involved. iOS 6 was the last version of iOS from Scott.
The iPhone 4S is a collector's item.

I remember, it all began when IOS 7 released. Animation become wrinkled, UI color become bright and cartoonish, and so on. Apple then increased the CPU in iphones afterward to compensate that slowness, which eventually make the UI smoother (but still not as smooth as ios 6 and below). I think the most fluid version now is IOS 12 (I used 12.1.4 in 6s), with the expense of shorter battery life.

I miss times when iOS was superior.

Nowadays, its for snapchat teenagers. Bunch of colorish ********.

iOS 6, skeumorphic design was, ahead of its time.

iOS 7 was a mess. But it was the beginning of a redesign. I like how iOS 12 looks and that Apple is slowly bringing back some button shapes and shadows. iOS 1-6 on the other hand I’m glad is gone.

Speaking of animations. iOS 12 on my XS is very very fluid. Delays when tapping or swiping and having to wait for animation to finish (iOS 7-10(11)) is gone. This has been one annoying aspect with iOS for the last couple of years where as iOS 1-6 was much faster in that respect.

Even apps are starting to fix their own input delays. Latest Things update is remarkably. Everything you tap will cancel if you tap something else.

But they say only with iOS 12 does it feel better than the previous iOS versions (up to iOS 7).

Then here is the best proof. The animations have nothing to do with the number of features and functions that have been increasing since iOS 7. Many peoples said iOS 7+ just slower because of the many new features. Yes that might be true, but Apple has always left out too new features for older iOS devices (on an iPhone 5S there is no ARKit support).

I claim when iOS 12 uses the original iOS 6 animations. Then it becomes fluid in every area of iOS, even on the oldest iOS devices that can still do iOS 12 (iPhone 5S, iPad Air...) and with less CPU/GPU power (good for battery life). With the exception of the CPU/GPU-intensive app, like the new Mobile Games app or the Affinity Photo app.
But the iOS base functions (Safari, Settings, Calendar, Phone) are almost the same. Then Apple is kidding us. They just want to sell new devices.

We customers don't have to put up with this from Apple anymore. Only if we continue to allow it will new Apple always try to be against the customer. Does Apple really want to continue like this?

If Tim Cook and his followers are only interested in profits, then I've unmasked you.
Steve Jobs taught you so much and now you're destroying everything.
I'm sure if Steve was still alive, would kick out anyone who made that bad decision.

He is no longer alive, we customers have to decide whether we continue to support the current decisions or not.

Because if Apple with iOS 13 really does not support the older iOS devices like iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPad Air, iPod touch (6th generation) ... anymore.
If they do support it and it gets even worse than it already does under iOS 12.

Then I won't support Apple anymore and I won't buy their new iPhone, iPad, Mac etc... I don't think anyone with this attitude is worth anything anymore.

If the older iOS devices don't support the new features of iOS 13. Apple you can leave them out. The iOS base functions don't change anyway. What's the problem?

The last giant company to care about it's customers, it's workers, and America was Ford, when Henry Ford still ran it. Those days are long gone.

Apple will do what it thinks is best for it's executives. Always and forever more.

This statement is true for any company with shareholders. Shareholders are the true customers because it is the company's responsibility to increase value and ROI. Consumers are not the true "customers".

True. But on the flip side the money comes from the customers. If you don’t please the customers the money will go away and so will the shareholders.

Let's see how Apple presents the new iOS tomorrow.

If the many devices don't support it anymore and it's even more redundant than iOS 12. And no improvement like the iOS 6 animations.

Then as already said: Then I won't support Apple anymore and I won't buy their new iPhone, iPad, Mac etc... I don't think anyone with this attitude is worth anything anymore.

At the same time, never expect coordinations from customers. For a company like Apple, I am confident that unless there is literally no customer buying their products or use their services, Apple will not change their decision or direction anytime soon.

Your talking about years worth of iOS updates... things change.

Lets not forget "Siri & Suggestions"
... Just going through all of these and turning them all off for every single app in Settings

They definitely don't do it for customers.

Then how do you explain the massive sales every quarter?

Think about the massive security holes. Whoops. iOS 12 is fine. The iOS 6 and earlier designs were good for small low-resolution screen, that's why there are thick 3D bars, 'textures', which makes the eyes easier on crappier screen (by today's standard). iOS 7 itself was awful, but Apple has gradually scaled back from that radical redesign to a more functional based design. iOS 12 is fast, stable, much less bug as compared with iOS 11. I love it.

And then you have Android... Which did a 180 and now solely focuses on making sure even the oldest slowest devices are getting updates to make their devices faster and more fluid.

Android is more fluid than iOS these day.
