iOS 9.2 using up battery, Safari issue?

After updating my 6S and iPad mini 2, I noticed their battery lives are significantly reduced, especially the iPad. My mini 2 sometimes get very warm as well, and it cannot last a day, which is very bad.
Both usage and standby are showing the same amount of time. I did not modify anything from pre 9.2. On my 6S, I have uninstalled Facebook app before 9.2.
Main app that uses battery is shown to be Safari, despite minimal on screen time.

Anybody having similar issues?
One thing I could think of is iCloud issues with Safari, but it's hard to tell.

If standby and usage are the same it sounds like something is stuck. Could be an app or some process. Have you tried restarting? Perhaps disabling some iCloud related settings?

I have restarted the devices. No difference. I did not have this issue on 9.1, only after updating to 9.2. No changes in apps, settings, etc.

I am going to see how things are without iCloud safari syncing enabled.
It is weird seeing Safari as the number one app using the battery, yet on screen time is very minimal in relation to the overall usage time.

I agree with @C DM, something is stuck (Standby and Usage are the same), and it sounds like the upgrade did not go well. I doubt that turning off iCloud will resolve the issue. You could try a hard reset (hold power and home buttons until you see the Apple logo), but I doubt that will fix it. Reset all settings might also fix it, as well as a restore using a backup, but I would almost bet that you are gonna have to restore and set up as new.

I had the same issue on my iPad Mini 4 some days ago: after 3 hrs I realized usage and standby time were identical.
I don't know which app were stuck in background, but a reboot solved the issue.

Do you, by any chance, have Safari tabs open on either device? Because they continue to run in the background, even with the Safari app closed.

I only have two tabs open most of the time, and they are news websites (not youtube or streaming sites). My browsing behavior doesn't change before 9.2, where I didn't have this problem.

Having tabs open has nothing to do with the the Usage and Standby times being the same. When he resolves that issue, his battery issue will more than likely be resolved.

I know you said you tried a restart, but what about a hard restart? Home button and lock button for 10 seconds. After every single software update, I do a hard restart. Haven't had a problem with battery through 9.2 Betas or 9.2.1.

Absolutely. However, if their Safari usage is fairly high when they haven't been using it, then having tabs open in the background could be the culprit. Usually a hard reset will fix almost anything else.

As I said in my earlier post, something running in the background (something stuck) is the cause, and the Usage and Standby time being the same are the result. 9.2 didn't cause it, but it sounds like something with the upgrade didn't go well. I listed four things as a possible "fix", and as undesirable as they may be, restore as new was the last on the list. Since upgrading to 9.2.1 would reinstall the OS, that might also fix it, but if it were mine, I would want to resolve the issue before upgrading.

The same thing happened to me right after 9.1 came out. I had to completely wipe my phone and start from scratch, without an iCloud backup. I'm not sure exactly what the issue was, but now my battery usage

I completely agree. I actually had the same thing happen to me with the 9.1 update, and the only thing that fixed it was a complete wipe and clean install of 9.1 without a restore from backup. I'm not sure what happened with the update, but the restore completely fixed it. And I haven't had any issues at all with the 9.2 updates, either. So, it may be unfortunate, but I think you're right with the restore.

Yup! While I have seen a reboot, hard reset, reset settings, and restore from backup occasionally fix that, I have never seen a restore as new not fix it.

Couple days after disabling iCloud Safari sync, I noticed a more reasonable battery usage. Stand-by and usage time are no longer the same, with the expected stand-by time being more than usage time. My iPad mini 2 does not run out of battery in a day anymore. So far so good.

Have not installed 9.2.1 yet since iTunes/App store downloads have been at extremely slow speed in my region.
