Does iOS 9 finally let you print to any wirelessly connected printer? Or do you still need to have something that is AirPrint compatible? I find it quite hard to believe that even in iOS 8 I cannot wirelessly print directly to my printer from my iOS devices unless they are compatible.

Are you serious?

BTW: You can use Google Cloud Print on iOS as well, which is compatible with every printer connected to your PC.

Yes I am serious. If I intend to use my iPad Air for productivity or even my phone, why do I need to setup a third party app on a PC or Mac that I need to keep running to be able to wirelessly print? I thought the whole point of the iPad and the iPhone is to make life easier. How is this easier if I have to engage such methods?

I recently bought a Nexus 9. I can now print wirelessly at home and at work at the press of a button. It's no iPad, but printing off emails and attachments is quite simple and easy. It just works.

Not everyone is purchasing one of the few and limited AirPrint compatible printers these days.

It's 2015. Wirelessly printing should not be a hassle on iOS. It should "just work".

Sorry I was being cynical because you basically asked if something has to be compatible in order to being compatible. Of course it has to!

AirPrint just works and most wireless printers support it.

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear in my opening comment. I was referring to compatibility - the kind where you can just select your printer and print, rather than having it being specced with AirPrint in the printer's firmware for it to work.

Unfortunately most wireless printers do not have AirPrint built into their firmware and hence you need third party app work arounds. There are a few new ones, but you just can't go printing on any previous printer or new printer the way you can on Android. It just doesn't work and that is my only real gripe with iOS at the moment. Love everything else about it. But it would be nice if they got rid of requiring AirPrint in the firmware of printers and rather let me select any printer that is networked and let me print. It would make the life of many people easier. They are opening up iOS slowly, maybe they'll grant this wish of mine in iOS10 as they move towards becoming more productive, especially with their iPad line.
