I have found a small thing with the new app switching interface in iOS 9 that is actually effecting my productivity.

In iOS 8 and earlier, if my phone buzzed because I got an email, I could double tap the home button, slide over and quickly look at the Mail app to see which of my email accounts it was in, without actually clicking into the Mail app. It was good to know if it was something to my work account that I needed to look at or something to another account that would generally not be urgent.

However, with the new app switching layout, the right side of the mail app, where the numbers are, is covered by whatever app is next to it. This could be solved by simply having the apps layer over each other in the opposite direction, but it's really bugging me. I've found that I can slide my finger very slowly and find a small spot where I can see the numbers, but it's nowhere near as convenient. Am I the only one who used this feature in this way?

A number of things were lost with the new layout there--as nicer looking it might be in some ways, it's less practical overall.

I think it has to do with the new slideover and split screen on the ipad which involve dragging from the right. Thus the app selection process had to be reversed. And then they no doubt wanted to make the iphone work the same way even though the iphone doesn't have slideover or split screen.
