iPhone iOS 9 Auto Brightness

Hi there,

I'm not sure if it's a bug, but since upgrading to iOS 9/iOS 9.0.1, the auto brightness seems jittery.

My screen will now be either too dim, or too bright, whereas before it would seem to get the brightness levels perfect.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yeah I have noticed that too, probably have to wait for a future update.
It's actually one of the only few issues I have with iOS 9. The other being that Siri just constantly wakes up by accident when trying to unlock your phone.

For some Auto Brightness has always been buggy pre iOS 9 too.

Their are some troubleshooting tips if you google.

Personally I prefer to set my own level of brightness.

Same here... Sometimes it just goes dim. It happens suddenly. And on yesterday, evening, it was too bright when i was sitting on the sofa in the "dark". Good to know it isnt just me....

I noticed this on my 6s and thought I had a defected proximity sensor or something like that. I never have auto-brightness on anyway so turned it off. No issues now.

There is also no way to customize the auto brightness levels (as in setting the low point in a dark room).....it does every bit of it automatically. I wonder why the customization would be taken away?

I really miss this feature. I'm on iOS 9.1 and there is no auto-brightness button! It used to work so well, why would they remove this feature? Does anyone know anything about this?

The option is still there. What device? Have you tried rebooting?

I believe there must be something wrong with my phone then.. this screenshot is all I get even after a reboot. There is no option for Auto brightness in the settings/Display & Brightness tab. After updated to iOS 9.0 Auto brightness was there, but it wasn't working right, now on iOS 9.1 it's not even an option.

I'm using an iPhone 5s

Any help would be very appreciated.

I've noticed it being weird but haven't specifically paid attention to like what exactly is different. I've always noticed that once auto brightness makes the device get bright, it hates to go back down. Sort of annoying.

I've had it where I was sitting by a window on an overcast day, sort of dim screen. The sun then comes out for like 20 seconds and forces my phone all the way to max brightness, then the sun goes away and I'm left in a relatively dark room with an unnecessarily bright phone that is now becoming warm with the battery draining excessively.

I wish that when you'd turn on auto-brightness, you'd get a second slider below it with 2 grabbers, one for max brightness and one for minimum brightness. I don't like my phone to ever be at 100% brightness because it makes the battery drop like a stone. I can see the screen fine at like 50%-75% outside, 100% is unnecessary considering how bad it makes the phone drain in my experience.

Hmm that's weird. Mine works fine. Say I'm in a pitch black room and I toggle auto brightness off then back on again. What does it do? It goes all they way to the left the lowest setting like it should. So say I'm still in that pitch black room and I slide the slider to 25% brightness or so then lock my screen with auto brightness still on. Ok now I unlock it and it's still at 25% where I set it even though I'm in complete darkness. It will only go less than that 25% if I toggle auto brightness off then on again or I slide the slider back down. It's set at that point for my minimum brightness. Same goes for the other way. Say I'm in direct sunlight and it shoots up to 100%. If I slide the slider to half way with auto brightness on that's as bright as it will get in direct sunlight till I toggle auto brightness off and on again or manually adjust the slider. I believe this is how it has worked in the past and still works to this day for me!

Any glitches like that can only be fixed by a restore. It's a problem unique to your current set-up.
