I was live streaming some video from my iPad Air 2 with 9.0.1 to my Apple TV gen 3, latest version, and now, after 2 minutes (auto lock) my iPad locks and video stops air playing. Before with iOS 8, my iPad would not lock when air playing video. So now I have to either set auto lock to never or tap the screen before two minutes. Anyone else experience this? Hoping this was a overlooked bug and guessing it came due to the overhauled AirPlay language.

Ipad mini 2 ios 9.0.1 and video still plays while lock.

Seems to be a hit or miss with some devices. My friend has an iPhone 6s and it auto locks when the phone goes to sleep and stop the video on AirPlay. An unusual bug where the problem persists on some devices and not the other.

I wonder if cell data is the common thread between it working and not. Lock screen activates and wifi is turned off or interrupted for some reason.

No it isn't. He was on wifi while using AirPlay on his 6s.

Yea before AirPlay would prevent the device from going to sleep (if the app was programmed correctly). The Dish app would keep the device unlocked and so would video from Safari. I had the nbc sports app lock while air playing, but they fixed that bug awhile ago. But yea, seems devices don't stay unlocked while playing sometimes despite the auto lock set to a timer.

I know that since AirPlay only work on WiFi, what I'm saying is when the device locks iOS might disrupt the wifi rather than it stopping AirPlay intentionally. Someone should try turning off cell data and retrying since that changes the behavior of WiFi when locked/sleeping. I have used AirPlay on an Air 2 WiFi ( 9.0.1 ) for audio without any interruption when locked.
