iPad iOS 9 on iPad 4

I have an iPad 4 since 2 years and I upgraded it to the latest iOS (8) and I was shocked that the iPad is no more fluid like before, laggy animations made the performance go down, I have an iPhone 5S running on the same software (8.3) and it runs very fluidly and without any lag but when I tried to compare my iPhone 5S (A7 chip) with iPad mini 2 (A7 chip), it actually seemed that the iPhone 5S which is running the same (A7) processor is way faster and beyond the performance of iPad mini 2, so I think the problem is not really in iPhones, it's in the iPads, I really hope apple would improve my iPad's performance with iOS 9 as its really not that old to not get any of the new features and performance improvements, does any one have the same problem ?? What is the actual performance of iPad on iOS 9 ??

iPads have much higher resolution displays and their Gpu struggle with that. Also, on larger displays, any dropped frames are a little more noticeable. I've seen the same on iPad 4 versus iPhone 5 (the iPad should be faster and smoother than the i5, but it wasn't).

Wouldn't this also apply to the iPhone 6 Plus? As its screen resolution is much higher than on iPads (I believe)

no, it's not

Its is not much higher but definitely higher at 2204x1248, which gets down sampled to 1920x1080. So definitely lot of extra workload in comparison to any iPad. Hence 6 Plus often stutters much more than Air 2.

uhm...sorry, but i think you are wrong.
iPad is: 2048*1536 → ~ 3.15 megapixels
iPhone 6 Plus: 2204x1248 → ~ 2.75 megapixels

The iPad Air 2 is simply (much) more powerful.
As a matter of fact the iPhone 6 plus is closer in performance to the first iPad Air, which stutters like hell. =)

iPad 4 does not have GPU capable of Metal, so no enhanced hardware accelerated graphics like the iPhone 5s and up / iPad Air and up.

It did stutter quite a bit with 7.0 (at least that's my opinion). But it was much better with 7.1 and then worse again with 8.0. Air 2 is faster on 8.x than Air 1 on 7.1

We have every iPad from the iPad 2 to the Air 2, which we use for testing. For most apps there is very little discernible difference in performance. I bet if I was to throw an iPad 3 and Air 2 in a case and let you compare the two for browsing, email, and general usability, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It is only in graphics intensive games that the horsepower difference becomes apparent.

I have an iPad 4 and it's on iOS 7.1.2. Right when iOS 8 came out I downloaded it and started playing around with it. I mainly use my iPad for safari browsing so naturally it's the first thing I did. And I found that loading pages and response time is much slower post iOS 7.1.2. The same goes for my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.4. My iPad 4 on 7.1.2 actually loads and reacts to webpages faster than my iPhone 6! I'm not sure what they did but it's just not the same. So I quickly downgraded my iPad 4 back to iOS 7. Another thing I noticed and still notice on my iPhone 6 is that sometimes when you select a third party app icon it takes a half second to a second to spring open! Still happening on 8.4! On iOS 6-7.1.2 my apps always loaded instantly and I've never seen this lag until iOS 8. So my iPad 4 will stay on 7.1.2 unless they somehow really polish things up in iOS 9. I long for my iPhone 5 with iOS 6. That was pretty much the perfect iOS and device combo for performance and stability.
