I upgraded my iPhone5 from IOS 8.4 to IOS 9 and my battery usage has suddenly become ridiculous. From fully charged at 8am it goes to 30% by midday without me even using it. Only a few days ago it would last most of the day with moderate use - its now virtually useless. I don't think it is a problem with the battery percentage display because when it gets very low it will not function at all confirming -surprise- that 2% battery actually means 2% battery. Can anyone recommend a fix? Why did I ever consent to an early OS upgrade and why are Apple so pushy about upgrading OS's in general before adequate beta and semi-public testing is complete - like an upgrade is going to improve my phone experience? This has completely 'nobbled' the phone

It doesn't appear that most people are having issues. Have you tried some troubleshooting? Seeing which apps are using the battery, closing all apps and restarting the phone, resetting some settings if not all settings, perhaps even restoring as new?

Yes did all the usual things switching off Apps and now barely anything running. It still went down from 100% to 30% in 4 hours with no email or phone even used in that time. I have the 'Battery App' and first day I noticed the problem, switched everything off even 'Find my phone'. it is running down to nothing like the IOS upgrade has killed the battery. it is a 3 year old phone so today I am going to try having a new battery fitted, but will not be surprised if that does not totally cure the problem

My fiancée has an iPhone 5 updated to iOS 9 and her phone has shown better battery life since the update. It's possible something went wrong with your install or maybe it just needs to be fully recharged and then drained.

Are you sure it's IOS9 and not the battery. My iPhone 5 battery sucked but once I installed a new battery from iFix It, it was working great. Could be just a coincidence that the battery is starting to fail at the same time IOS9 was installed.

I don't have a 5 but when I installed iOS 9, a lot of my battery saving settings were changed. In notifications, I had programs that had notifications off, now turned on. I just went back again and found more apps turned on. Find friends was on.

With that said.. a 3 year old battery is probably toast.

Ditto this. My iPhone battery started being terrible a little after the 8.4.1 update. It didn't get better with iOS 9, so I went in to have it tested. They gave me a new battery at no charge because of the amount of degradation. Might be worth a try. You might even qualify for the recall program.
