iOS 9 video orientation bug?

My wife noticed today that videos she has on her iPhone 6 taken by previous iPhones have become cropped since updating to iOS 9. I have checked this on my iPhone 6 and have the exactly the same problem with videos taken on my iPhone 3GS and 4s.

I have had a quick search and can't really find much about this issue and can't find a fix. If you 'edit' the video it reverts back to the original view, but can't be saved in that aspect.

Can anyone else confirm this is a bug for everyone and does anyone know a fix?

Greetings. I have the exact same issue. Updated my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 9, and discovered that videos taken with an older iDevice (iPhone 4) were automatically cropped to 16:9 aspect ratio. This strange effect applied to videos that were shot vertically; however, when pressing the "edit" button, as the OP said the video reverts back to its original view sans the added crops.

I have noticed this issue seem to be affecting videos taken by devices before, at least, iPhone 5, as my videos taken on iPhone 5, iPad Air and iPhone 6 Plus did not show such issue. I believe this is an OS bug and have yet to find a fix or see it mentioned else where except by the OP.

Thanks for confirming this appears to be a universal bug within the OS. I'm hoping for a fix as most of my older videos are of my children when they were babies who now have some of their heads partly cropped out of videos.

I have discovered a solution that will restore the affected videos. Select the "cropped" video, go into Edit, which will show the video in its original orientation. Now what you want to do is to press on the image slider on the bottom, as you would do if you were editing. Instead of dragging to select a particular length, press on the far right side so the entire video segment - from start to finish - is selected. If you have successfully selected, you will see the slider portion highlighted in yellow. At this time the option for saving should be available. Click and save to another file so you don't lose the original, and voila - video is restored in its original orientation, without the crops. I am sorry if it sounded a bit complicated, but this method worked well for me, just very time consuming and takes up extra spaces. Please try it on one of the video and see if it works; a way to verify is to see if the extra saved video is the same length as the original.
