iOS 9 vs. iTunes 11

Now what.

I am still on 10.6, because I really think above 10.7 will slow down my '11 MacBookPro and my '09 iMac.
on the other hand I'm still using Logic 7..... the list goes on...
Yes, I know I could update for free to the latest OSX..but I seriously don't want to, because I'm not a big fan of that Mavericks or later design.

Since having a pretty new iPhone 5c, which runs iOS 9 pretty good, I can't sync my phone with my macs anymore.

Why is that Apple?
You used to be cooler than that, not doing all this - you need the newest and fastest machine.

Or maybe:
any alternative ways to sync my iPhone other than iTunes?

Your 2011 Mac will not be slow on El Capitan...I have a 13in Early 2011 model with 8GB of RAM and an SSD.

You'll likely need an updated version of iTunes which is only available on the newer OSs.

From a technical standpoint it really is worth upgrading to Yosemite/El Capitan, providing you've got 4GB+ RAM it should run just as quick (if not a little quicker) than Snow Leopard as it utilises compressed memory and has a lot of under-the-hood optimisations for the CPU.

You don't need "the newest and fastest machine" - you just need an operating system that isn't 6 generations old. And as your machine supports the latest OS, they're not forcing you into purchasing a new machine. The reason they have OS upgrades is so that newer features on other Apple devices work with it.

as a matter of fact: tried os10.9 on similar machines, and I still Need some of my old software to be working. i'm very Aware that i can Update. i just like the old OS

I'm in the same situation. Still at 10.6.8 for some old applications. And yep, iPhone won't mount in iTunes anymore.

Sorry guys, time marches on.

Yosemite and El Capitan weren't bad at all. If you go by a lot of the complaining on this forum, then you might think they are the worst operating systems ever conceived. But remember, people come here when they have problems to complain about. When things work great they don't post. These two OSes really have been working great for most of us.

Do this. Make a complete backup of your boot disk. Install El Capitan. Use it for a while. I'm fairly sure you won't have any serious problems and will have no need to go back to your old OS. Unlike iOS Apple still lets you downgrade Macs, so that option is still there for you.

Give the new OS versions a chance and don't be dissuaded by the 1% of people with problems making 99% of the noise.

I was having the same problem with my iPhone 5S, but all seems to be solved now. When I originally downloaded iOS9 I did it via iTunes.

I restored my phone to iOS8 http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iosapps/how-downgrade-from-ios-9-to-8-7-reinsta ll-ios-8-3522302/ and downloaded iOS9 via the phone. No problems now connecting to iTunes.

I hadn't updated my iPad 2 yet, after having the problem with the iPhone. So once all was well with the iPhone update, I went ahead and updated the iPad without any problems. There again, downloading the update via the iPad.
