Anandtech did a review awhile back:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3794/the-iphone-4-review/2

Showing the following picture (below)

Did anyone know where I could find the exact ranges under iOS 9.x?

E.g., looking for the following (NOTE this is what I am looking for, it is not correct-serves as an example only)

0 bar = -120 or lower
1 bar = -106 to -119
2 bars = -100 to -105
3 bars = -86 to -99
4 bars = -85 to -81
5 bars = -80 to -75

not seen the above published chart but you can use field test mode to see for yourself. I observed the following the other day when testing.
9.2.1. Cell strength.
-100 was 3 dots
-92 was 4 dots

Here is what I have confirmed/seen so far:
-116 and lower (1 bar) ... not sure where it bottoms out as this is as low as I have been able to see it
-115 is two bars .. not sure where it goes to three bars (it looks like -105) or around there but have not been able to confirm

Why bother to leave the bars? Just change it to show dBm and you'll always have a more accurate reading of signal.

Yes I use the numbers, I just want to know what the numbers equate to in bars so if i see -115 for example I know that is two bars.

Just tap the numbers and it will turn to bars, and vice versa (once its in permanent field test mode)
