iOs 9.xx iPad2 - how to upload my ebooks?

I wasn't aware till a year or so ago that iTunes-iBooks doesn't support books (by books I mean .pdf and .epub) which are not being bought off of Apple (thank you Apple, you are creating a monster, a long time Win-MacOS switcher who'll switch to something else), I suddenly found out that all of my ebooks from the iPad (an old iPad2 with iOs 9.xx) were gone and also gone off the hard drive, I could retrieve them off of a backup and now sorting them out but also trying to figure how to load them back to the iPad, is there any other drag and drop or other solution to do so?

Do you currently have a Mac? Iirc, there's a separate Books app on Macs that you can use specifically for ebooks now.

Hmm, if you don't have a current Mac and don't want to use cloud storage for your ebook, then you can drag and drop to something like the Documents by Readdle. Then just use share sheets to open with iBooks.

Yes I do have a couple current (if 2011 and 2015 can be called current just because they still work...) Mac, actually I am typing off the one I used to sync my books on the iPad.

Frustrating was to retrieve the whole content and even more to find out that iBooks has renames most if not all the ePub books in my library

I don't want to host them on iCloud because they are a few GB and my space (I have the poor's man 50GB account and I don't want to pay Apple more!) and because I used to load and unload books and magazines upon needs, read a magazine and trash it but keep it in the library folder, just delete off the iPad as to save room for other stuff.

As mentioned above the Readdle apps work great. I personally use PDF Expert and Documents by Readdle. I use PDF Expert to store all my PDF book collection. I honestly have no idea if their apps are still supported for iOS 9 though. I could probably check that, I think the iPad mini my 3 year uses for YouTube kids is still on iOS 9. Apple may have changed things now but in the past, Apps on different updates didn’t always play well together.
