Hi,

I’m using the native iOS Address Book (e.g., the Contacts app) in combination with Google Contacts as the backend. For the past few weeks, I’ve noticed that contacts deleted remotely (e.g., via the Google Contacts web interface) are no longer syncing to my iOS devices or Mac. This means that when I delete a contact via the web interface, it is not removed from my synced devices.

As a result, the total number of contacts keeps increasing over time, as deletions no longer sync across devices.

Is anyone else using Google Contacts with an iOS device? Have you experienced this issue as well?

Kind regards,
learjet

My suggestion to troubleshoot:

First, make sure iCloud contacts are off:
  • Settings-->Apps-->Contacts-->Contacts Accounts-->iCloud--> toggle Sync This iPhone to off.
Then set Fetch New Data to an interval, not automatic. (Google recently did some security changes that disabled a lot of Push features for non-Google apps that it doesn't think are secure enough. But Fetch should work fine.)
  • Settings-->Apps-->Contacts-->Contacts Accounts-->Fetch New Data--> leave the Push toggle on, but also set Fetch interval Every 15 minutes.

Thank you. That‘s exactly my issue as well. I thought I was going crazy.

How do you deal with the issue? The „uncheck and reenable the whole address book in settings“ workaround has a lot of side effects, e.g. contact posters getting deleted or blocked WhatsApp status updates getting re-enabled. It‘s not exactly practical.
