ios apps are huge compared to android

Anyone realize how ridiculously large ios apps are? Word on ios is 500MB but on Android it is 65MB. Almost all the apps I look at are at least 5-10+ times larger on ios. Why the huge gap ?

Makes me wonder why apple still sells a 16GB device. On android you can easily get away with it but on ios it is much harder.

Most "small" android apps would download additional content during first run. (Such as need for speed most wanted or modern warfare) The advantage for this scheme is on some phones, the additional contents can be configured to be stored on a sd card instead of on the phone itself. So the size of the app is the same, just the portion downloaded from the play store is smaller.

That's only for games and a very tiny portion of other apps.

Office downloads all sorts of crap on Android before you can start using it. It's an awful experience.

The best place to verify is in applications manager (though link2sd will give the best breakdown), you'll surprised how much additional crap apps downloads outside if its original apk installation package.

No it doesnt.I have Word installed on my iPad Air 2 and Nexus 7 and on Android its 110MB while on iOS its 600 MB

I can't even use Excel or Word on my Tab S2. I try to open things via dropbox to edit like I do on my iPhone/iPad but it says the app is not compatible for my device? Do I need a subscription to use it on the Android tablet? I don't need one on my iOS devices.

Actually Word is 574 MB for the latest version and you really need OneDrive installed along with it for it to be useful. Why are the iOS apps larger... maybe the programming language used to create iOS apps?

Thats weird.Because with App Slicing in iOS 9,it should not download the files required by other devices.

Universal apps that are for iPhone and iPad are huge. App thining should change that if devs would bother. While Android had separated versions with device specific resources for quite some time now.

I guess not many are bothering to use it leaving an inflated app that you can only get while on wifi. I have unlimited data but with Apple 100mb limit I sometimes can't get an app.

I find it difficult to believe that the size difference is that big for Word. iOS app bundles tend to be a bit bigger than on Android, although this may become a thing of the past as app thinning is incorporated, but a difference of that size is not inherent to iOS.

You have a Samsung Tab S2 as well? I've even reinstalled the OS and it still doesn't work. I don't care how big or small the file is, I just want it to work like it's supposed to.

No I don't but word requires kit kat and that device wasn't upgraded past jelly bean. It also came out 4 years ago.

I thought it was a galaxy tab 2. I am not familiar with android tablets. I actually think they are a waste of time but I used word on an android phone that came out 2 years ago without an issue. Samsung tend to heavily modify android.
