If you want to understand how Android / Samsung has allegedly infringed dozens if not hundreds of Apple patents the I strongly recommend the patent presentation that Apple is using in court. http://www.scribd.com/doc/102595858/Apple-s-August-2010-presentation-to-Samsung-on-iPhone-patents

It also gives an excellent overview of the technologies and inner workings of the iPhone and iPad.

Cards are not looking very good for Samsung and everybody else using Android for their mobile platforms (SmartPhones or Tablets).

1) Apple is only using three relatively minor utility patents in this trial. All the others in that document don't matter at this point.

2) I can't believe they managed to get some of the obvious patents in that list. Probably they can't either, which is why they're not directly using them as ammunition.

I have no problem with Apple wanting to be compensated for direct copying, or even for some limited look and feel designs.

I do object hugely to their wanting to patent and withhold common actions and gestures just because no one else was greedy enough to try to grab them for themselves:

E.g. looking for urls, phone numbers, etc in text. Context aware keyboards. Sharing location. Chaining images together (they claim they own Street View!). And all the other bogus items in that document. It's just unbelievable.

I tend to agree with Judge Posner: patent disagreements should be settled by a panel of experts through the USPTO, not by a jury of non-technical people off the street.

That's a one side presentation, because it came from one side. Let's wait and see what Samsung's defense is and both sides have presented their arguments before we call for "frying" ?

Apple should be done soon with witnesses and presentation of its claims, and Samsung will have their turn. Just a few more weeks of this stuff and then we can finally start arguing about the inevitable appeal. :(

Run with it.

:p They even copied the box. The box. If you can't design a cardboard box and make it look original maybe you should be in the paper-making business. All paper looks essentially the same. Who's gonna sue you over a whiter shade of pale. The %^$%ing box. Samsung's going to hell in a footbasket.
