Why is the iOS and iPadOS music app so crippled compared to the MacOS version? You can't add music to your library unless it comes from the iTunes Store (which doesn't support lossless), you can't create Smart Playlists, you can't edit or add metadata/tags on any songs or albums. Functionality hasn't grown or changed in years. I get that Apple wants to rent me music for $10 a month for the rest of my life but, um no thank you.

You usually given to hyperbole?

First of all you’re not renting anything. For a monthly fee, Apple are providing you with a non-exclusive license to stream audio tracks from their library during that expires at the end of the monthly period.

Which, coincidentally, is EXACTLY the same that Spotify, Amazon, Tidal, Google and other services do.

At the end of the month you have the option to cease your subscription and not pay Apple a single solitary penny to Apple Music.

I didn’t have Apple Music for years - never stopped me from listening to either my personal library, streaming via Spotify, streaming via Plex or even listening to all purchased CDs from Amazon via their streaming service.

You can call it what it whatever you want it has the same end result. My post wasn’t even a knock on Apple Music itself (I do subscribe to Spotify for music discovery) but the fact that Apple focuses on Apple Music only, leaving those who prefer not to subscribe with no real improvements to the Music apps or the ability to manage their Music libraries from anything other than a Mac or Windows computer.
