iOS keeps asking for Hotmail password repeatedly

Like once a week I am asked to re-enter hotmail password and re-grant permission to the mail app to view my stuff. This happens both on my ipad and iphone on iOS 10, but never happened with previous versions. I entered the info once, and that was it.

Also doesn't happen with either icloud or gmail accounts, only hotmail (well, outlook really, except I still have the old domain name... )

Any idea on why this is happening, or better yet, how to fix/prevent this?

Have you tried setting it up as an IMAP account, Outlook account, or Microsoft Exchange?
Had a similar issue on my macOS Apple Mail program, with 2 factor authentication on. Used Microsoft Exchange setting with app password, and it works fine now.

I've been getting this today for mail app access to Outlook and Hotmail accounts . . . put in password and it doesn't seem to go through login process fully (it's correct password).

Outlook went down today morning but it should be working by now.
