Hello,

Can someone recommend me a good (preferably physical) book for learning iOS (7 or 8)? Are all books for iOS 8 in swift? I want to get started with Objective-C first.

I already have programming experience in .NET.

I know about the courses from Stanford and the one on stacksocial, but I'm looking for an actual book as I like reading more than watching a video. I'll do the video courses later.

The most popular book is probably BNR (Big Nerd Ranch). The other is probably "Programming in Objective C" by Kochan.

Check the versions as iOS/ObjC tend to change and you probably don't wan't an outdated one.

IIRC, both should be published this year.

Some blend the language with the OS, others just focus on one. Amazon offers previews, so you can probably determine what language the book covers.

If you're looking for Swift & iOS 8, there are a lot of pre-releases on SafariBooks Online. Their platform includes supplying books online for a monthly fee (I believe, anyway). I think there is a trial period if you want to check them out. Can't recommend them enough, although I'm not the one paying for a subscription.
