Hi,

Traditionally I’ve used gmail on my iPhone but I’d like to swap to Mail. That said, I can’t figure out how to do something I’m sure is meant to be easy …

I want to be able to swipe all the way left to delete a mail just like I can in iOS Messages.

Looking online, I’ve found a few posts suggesting I go to advanced settings in my mail ac, but I don’t have this option … I just see my iCloud options. I’ve also looked at the Mail swipe options and delete doesn’t exist there.

Anyone able to assist? Tyvm!

Mine works just like that. I have flag and delete as options when I swipe left. What does yours do?

Gmail doesn’t appear to work that way in the native Mail app. Swiping to the LEFT from within the “inbox”has the following three options:

1. None
2. Flag
3. Move Message

There is the option to delete when swiping LEFT from within the remaining folders.

I wonder if it’s because of Gmail then … Damn. Here is what I get (using iOS Mail but with a Gmail account).

Yes, the default for Gmail accounts is to archive, but you can change it. Settings / Apps / Mail / Mail Accounts. Tap your Gmail account, Account Settings, Advanced. Change "Move Discarded Messages Into" from "Archive Mailbox" to "Deleted Mailbox".

Perfect and ty.
I was assuming I had to do it via the Mail account options, and not gmail. Fixed and works. Cheers!
