Apple!!

How the HELL can you upgrade the native Notes app and completely ignore iOS' native Mail application?! Like OSX/MacOSX's native Mail application it's FAR TOO BASIC!

Sure there are a few alternatives ... especially Microsoft's iOS Outlook for corporate email (yet that app sends data back to Microsoft without stating WHAT exactly is being sent: no ideal for corporations).

1 thing that iOS Mail does right is it's simplicity of layout BUT therein lies it's faults:

- Mailboxes / Folders & Sub-Folders in particular.
Many of us have a file structure, call it what you will mostly sourced from corporate working environments or file system habits from our desktop computers for decades now. Unfortunately for iOS Mail on Exchange connected mailboxes too many of us have over 20/50 sub-folders in various tree structures.
> why can't we collapse these sub-folders until required? Like when we want to traverse through them? Like when filing?

- tabs or key folder jump-lists/shortcuts.
> would like the ability to set 1-4 jump shortcuts to navigate to a specific sub-folder when required.
> would like to jump to the bottom of ALL folders within my corporate/personal mailbox.
> maybe alphabetical by Letters on right-side bar like that in Contacts list.
> Inertial scrolling is taking up MORE effort to navigate to the specific folder now-a-days: often swiping back too often.

- FONT SIZE!!
> Receiving an email with an imbedded table, picture or document without fail IMMEDIATELY reduces the Font Size of the rest of the text within that email, or within the email thread. NO setting Text Size or maximing Text within Accessibility does NOT correct this! Those text size adjustments ONLY affect the Menu and headers of such an email (Subject, To/CC/BCC fields). THIS MUST be fixed.
Using pinch to zoom IN to read the text also now leads to scroll Left/Scroll Right then pinch to zoom OUT to read ALL the text that used to fit in the screen and also to resize the imbedded document/picture/table to legibly read that as well.

- Attachments!!
> Why the hell do I NEED to goto the bottom of EVERY email just to get to an attachment?
> Can there not be a button within each email that has attachments be present to select and expand a sort of finder list to open up the attachments or a quick ForceTouch to preview?
> maybe a line under the subject field that can be expanded for attachments. I should
NOT have to re-read a document (or scroll through it) to get at such an attachment.

iOS Mail app like OSX's needs a SERIOUS overhaul! NOW like 4yrs ago!

As someone who is in low in the corporate ladder of a Fortune 500 company, I can say that I have many folder already in my mail, however since I'm just starting out my corporate career I don't have a lot of nested folders yet. I never noticed how folders couldn't collapse and I do see this as a important problem. I believe the Mac mail app can do this, but then again the Mac mail app can do a lot of stuff the iOS app cannot do, especially a
Smart mailboxes.

The best I can say is submit the feature request to Apple, and email Tim. I believe he reads ever message.

I am not in a true corporate environment. But I do have exchange account with a folder strucure. So far so good but attachment issue is annoying.
Followed by Apple requiring two factor authentication to use iCloud email address, I may just end up giving up logging iCloud account when using other email clients. Lame.

I'm a tad confused why 2SV would cause a problem with your emailing. Do you log into various computers to check email often? Otherwise I would imagine you could just have iCloud.com remember your browser and not need to use 2SV every time you use that browser.

No. I use email on a Mac and a PC. But I use not only Apple stock mail client for iCloud email account. When apple enforces 2FA, I will not be able to log into iCloud account on like Microsoft outlook without an app specific password, which does require 2FA.
I have two Apple ID for different regions so 2FA will be a pain when switching between them.

May I humbly suggest that you talk to actual Apple about this?

Yeah on new iCloud setup accounts I've noticed that 2FA is now enforced! And it's using SMS (not ideal when carriers have SMS problems or when roaming internationally). Should you travel internationaly not all plans have SMS enabled/data, and a *611 call reaches the local roaming provide not your home provider. Once you figure that out you may still have a few hours left within the international standard window of 72hrs before an SMS expires for it to reach you. Note those processed without roaming enabled on your account prior to roaming may not arrive at all: thus resend.

Why is Apple not processing PUSH Notifications for this so that an iOS API realizes the push and auto authenticates on the device for 3rd party apps such as Outlook.ios app?!

PS: @Justaguy48 what on earth is "2SV" or did you have a typo for 2FA?

May I humbly suggest that you talk to actual Apple about this?

Looking for a direct link didn't think they'd listen as I cannot be the FIRST person to notice these issues.

Anyone else find issues with iOS Mail app?

PSS: Op thanks for the proper forum move much appreciated.

Why would you need to switch between them? Couldn't you just add them both and switch between the mailboxes? For the first time to log in you would need to use the app-specific password, but once it's added it should be good to go. Why would having two accounts require you to keep signing in and out?

You bet. In the past, folks have emailed tcook@apple.com

BTW, I thought many of your concerns were valid and on point.

2SV is two step verification. It's the same as two factor authentication, just different words. Where I work we commonly refer to it as 2SV.

For the iOS Mail app I use it on a daily basis. I don't see any problems with it. There are some limitations like not being able to change the color of flags, no rule syncing with the macOS mail app, and no smart mailboxes, but besides those misses I find the mail app very useable.

They are not two email addresses but two Apple ID. And to use contents from two different regions I do need to switch between account here and there to let things go through. Thus I need to sign out and sign in often. Having 2FA means I may need to continuously verify my identity, which will surely become a pain.
And I do state Apple ID in my previous reply.

Because this was thread was about the mail app I was assuming two different iCloud email addresses.

Couldn't you use family sharing to tie the, together so that you could get your content off both accounts? I'm unsure how family sharing works for different regions, since I have never tried, but it might work.

Family share does not work for multiple regions as not all contents are available at all countries.
But for iCloud account, as long as I don't use it as main account I am fine.
One more annoying thing though: cannot create folders directly under iCloud account folder. All folders are at top level.

I will add why in the world did apple make it difficult to see where to attach items..
How in the world is long press a good option for attachments? Just put an icon there..

Double tap brings up the contextual menu but i definitely see this is still not a good implementation!

I so agree with you there and it's also odd that this weird attachment solution is there since iOS9 on iPhones while on iPad the Apple mail app does have a paperclip option.

Which is why I switched on iOS8 already to Spark and currently I'm on Email by Easylido because they also show the attachments above the message instead of below it. Is it perfect? Nope e.g. search is better in Spark. See also this topic from ages ago but I've maintained the list quite a bit.

Similar differences I've seen with the App Store app and filtering which also lacks a lot such as filtering on paid apps only on iPad but at least you can filter a bit.

I had been using Email from Easilydo but am giving the native mail app a good go. Maybe a week straight. I've found I don't use the snooze feature much. And it's also annoying that when I click an email link it only will open in the native app.

So I'm giving it a shot. Sometimes it just works better to use the built in stuff. But I do find it odd they can't add a paper clip or a snooze mail function.
