This iOS music app seems like the worst thing ever.

Why does my library have all purchased songs.., and is there anything i can do to change it to being only downloaded songs?

my itunes account probably has several thousand purchased songs - 90% of them were purchased by my kids.

I don't want to listen to them.

when i plug my phone into my car.., the car entertainment system shows all the songs in my library - that is all purchased songs...

i am interested in maybe 1 out of 10 of them.

is there anything that can be done to fix this?

there should be tab/section calls "Downloaded Music". if not, click on Edit

sure - i have that - it shows what i have downloaded to my phone...

the path for downloaded artists and songs is: Library > downloaded music > artists

the problem is that is _not_what my car entertainment system indexes.

what my car indexes ix this:

Libarary > Artists

which is every song ever purchased on my itunes acct - whether downloaded or not...

I had to delete all of the items that aren't downloaded to the phone. I was a pain but that was the only way I could get rid of the music that wasn't on my phone. Think it was in drop down when you pushed the 3 red dots. It was a pain

You could have easily just hidden those purchases from within iTunes.

Really? I don't think my iTunes was showing all of the songs that were showing up on the phone. I use my iTunes for DJing and remove the music that I don't need. Oh well. Both methods would've been a pain.

what 'itunes" are you talking about?

do you mean the music app on my phone, or the program on my computer.., or something else?

Though it pained me to do so, I left Apple's app for the first time and moved to Cesium because they removed the ability to have a universal "downloaded only" option. I can't stand having to backtrack over and over just to switch from album to playlist while having to tap "Downloaded Music" each time.

Yes, the downloaded music option is not "sticky", it keeps reverting back to the full Library at various times. It should be in Settings where you can select it to apply permanently (or until you change it back).

Coupled to this is that you can no longer search downloaded items only.

Why not go to the source of the problem and get your kids their own iTunes account. You can link them to your account for family sharing but your libraries should remain separate.

I don't think that helps with songs already purchased.

Have you turned "Show Apple Music" Off in Settings > Music ??
That might help, that reduces the amount of Apple music chaff in the Music App.
