iOS System Storage Usage

I have been having space issues on my iPad (latest gen, 32GB) and iPhone 6s. Most of the space is taken up by "System", as much as 16GB!

Looks like this is a "known" issue (https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...storage-features.2070216/page-2#post-27057210).

However, searching for an actual approach to addressing it using the interwebs seems to present only the generic "clean your iPhone" sites without dealing with the issue of System storage.

This is happening across different devices (3 actually) and might not be just iOS 12 (I only noticed it after it came out, so I don't have any info about older versions).

Any recommendations for addressing? or links to an actual site that shows steps to fix?

Dont use icloud and clean install

I’ve had this happen on a few devices, and have been able to recover quite a bit of space from “System” by simply plugging the device into iTunes as detailed on this web page:
