I am trying to put together a list of the simple things that apple has neglected in their iOS. Things like the no forward delete button, no mark all as read in the mail app, not being able to download more than one app at a time (a queue without leaving the app store), no color customization whatsoever. You know, stuff that should be standard in 2012 that apple is just too stubborn to put in.

I would like your suggestions! Thanks.

^Yeah. Definitely a file manager. It doesn't have to be a complicated file manager. Just a simple documents folder would do. All the application, system, and any other directories which could cause serious problems if tampered with can remain hidden.

Another thing would be gestures in Safari. I've always found it a little jarring that I'm unable to do I simple two or three finger swipe to go back and forward. And also more keyboard shortcuts.

BTW, might I suggest that people send feedback to Apple on the features they would like to see? If Apple is ever going to listen, this might be the best way to speak up.

1. Notification Center Widgets

2. Better YouTube app

3. Insert Pics, attachments, voice memos in Notes

4. Newsstand hasn't been updated

A real WiFi scanner. One that tells you the channel and strength.

Being able to do a quick scroll down on web pages.

A file manager.

Hide Newsstand a useless pay for everything app.

Keeping the screen on if the device is playing music and plugged in since many radio apps don't have a prevent lock option. At least with 5.1 it just dims now.

Being able to change your default browser.

Being able to really print from your device. AirPrint is a joke. I have to leave my computer on to print. If I need my computer then I will just print from there.

Those are the ones right now I can think of that all require a jailbreak but I refuse to jailbreak it to void my warrenty and get viruses.

You can print directly to an AirPrint-equipped printer. Also manufacturers like HP and Brother offer apps to print directly to one of their printers that have non-AirPrint wireless.

The stuff I really wanted was fixed through jail breaking. Here are some that I think should be integrated into apples iOS by default:

Access to some general settings though notification center like screen brightness, turning your flashlight on etc. ncsettings has a very nice ui and usability.

Shiftselectcaret

Triple click home button for custom shortcut

Other stuff:

Badge icon for the reminders app

Mark as read in mail app

Calculator for the iPad

About the only thing that annoys me on a regular basis is the lack of some form of universally accessible file system for storing shared documents

Apart from that, I'd like quicker access to brightness (I don't care about Bluetooth, wifi, etc as I never shut them off) and possibly landscape options for Springboard

You can also install printopia on your desktop if you do not have an AirPrint printer. But I agree that you should be able to print to any printer on the network like you do from a laptop.

When you guys mention a file manager, what exactly do you mean? Are you talking about access to your app files? Or are you talking a place to actually store imported files like a flash drive?

I can't speak for everyone, but what I mean when I say file system is a central directory that every app can access. Allowing multiple apps access to the same file, instead of having to give each app a duplicate of that file as we do now.

File manager

Apple will never include a file manager. That would give the user too much control. It's a no-no.

Conversely, Apple greatly prefers to control all aspects of how their devices are used. While obviously they cannot control everything, they can, and do reduce the amount of control the user has whever possible.

It's all about keeping it simple for grandpa & grandma.

Sidebar:
I had a very good laugh today, upon sitting down with my latte at Starbucks. I took out my iPhone to check for messages, when the elderly man sitting next to me proudly said "I have one of those". He pulled out his iPhone, as he commented, " but I don't know how to use it". While trying not to laugh out loud, his elderly companion said " oh Fred they have classes at the mall".

It's this kind of scenario that proves the overwhelming influence Apple has. Seniors with no clue about smartphones are buying them just to be seen with an Apple device. I'm thrilled, every extra unused phone seniors carry is another that pumps up my APPL stock. What a winner that is:)
