Hope someone can help out with this one.

My brother in law has a droid. Funny thing is when I text him, it shows up as blue(iMessage). He is not getting texts from me or any other ios5 users. Any thoughts?

Well, if they are stealing, they're not doing a good job of it. He's not getting any of the messages. I can only send him a text by going to settings and turning off iMessage.

Obviously, somehow his old number is registered with iMessage. So instead of sending out a regular SMS/text message, your iPhone is trying to send it as an iMessage instead, which of course he never receives.

Are you sure he never upgraded to iOS5 before he sold his iPhone? Either way, he's going to have to contact Apple to have this resolved.

I have a similar issue, but except this is on a friend's iPhone where he has turned off iMessages. When I send him a message, it tries to send as an iMessage as opposed to a text, which is bizzare.

Try deleting that person's contact info. Then, add it again. Hopefully once it is added, it will check to see if the person is on an iOS device (which they won't be) and will default to texts.

I'd try this advice second.

First, turn off iMessage, send him a text, and then turn it back on.

If that fails then I'd move on to FSMBP's advice.

So they are going to his old phone. I guess he just upgraded it to ios5 cuz he still uses it as an iPod. I tried deleting his contact and adding it again but no luck. I think he is probably going to have to just contact apple.

Buddy has a similar issue. He has an iPhone 4s and a blackberry. He used the 4s for awhile everything is fine and now he switches the sim card to the Bb from the 4s and he can't receive any SMS. Ppl with ios5 would see him being on iMessage although he is using the berry. Ppl without iPhone just can't sent him any MSG.

I also notice problem with delay MSG an lost MSG with frds without data and thus goes in and out of wifi area. iMessage can't seem to keep up fast enough. Sometimes my friend would have been wifi less for over an hr and my SMS app would still attempt to sent him iMessage . ....

Or just turn off iMessage on his old phone?
