Don’t get me wrong, I love all the new features on the iPad Pro. However, I feel like slideover is a hit or miss when using it. Appereantly, the only way you can drag it around is by pulling on the little vertical line on the top. It’s really annoying because it doesn’t always react to my finger and often I end up pulling on the notifications panel by accident.

iOS11 - slideover is a mess!!

It’s fiddly in slideover and easy to miss the hit target at first. I got used to it and get it with pretty much the same degree of success I hit anything else with my meatsticks (my fingers! I mean my fingers!
) at this point but I definitely acknowledge it was hard work, and doesn’t seem to have reason to be.It could do with some tweaking.
I am missing the ability to just pull in a new app from the side of the screen, saves keeping everything in a crowded dock or having to grab it from the home screen... having said that liking the other changes to multitasking! Much better being able to switch apps round, like being able to pull up the dock from anywhere etc. Just need to reinstate that one thing to make it a neater experience.
If you have a hardware keyboard you can also CMD + Space and drag from spotlight. Don’t disagree with you though, you should be able to access that spotlight mode without a keyboard and it’d be pretty much spot on imo
That is not the only way you can drag a slide over app around. You can also grab either side of the slide over window to move or dismiss it.
As well as sliding from the left side of app, you can even dismiss the slide over app by grabbing the right side of the app and then slightly pushing it to the left and then pull back to the right (that is assuming the app is located on the right hand side of the iPad). Hope that makes sense.
I did know that. That makes it a lot easier. The vertical touch target is still slightly thin imo but with the horizontal being that large it definitely makes it a lot easier. Thanks!
This is my big complaint so far - I have an iPad Air so slide over is my only multitasking option. Previously you could slide it open while using any app full screen, and then select any compatible app right from the slide over window, but this feature is now MIA - any app you want to use in slide over must first be in the dock so you can drag it in. To open a different app you have to stop everything you’re doing and drop back to the home screen - a big step backwards unfortunately.
I’m surprised there isn’t some way to expand or scroll through the dock to reveal all the other apps on the device - perhaps this will come in time.
You can reach Spotlight search by swiping down from the top to reveal the lock screen, then swipe right to show notifications. The search field is at the top. Now, that said, many people are complaining that Spotlight should be easier to reach than this, and I agree with them.
But, the dock is larger and can hold up to 15 apps I think. The trick I believe is to think carefully about which apps you intend to use in multitasking, and put those in the dock. Another alternative that I've heard is to create a folder, drop your apps of choice in there, and add that folder to the dock.
Thanks. You're correct of course but it's not the same spotlight interface you get with a keyboard, or used to be able to get with a short drag (it's spotlight plus widgets, rather than just spotlight) You can't drag app icons from it. I'd actually be OK if they just made that one draggable, though I'd prefer the faster shortcut for dedicated spotlight.
Granted there are workarounds, but I don’t think you should have to plan ahead - as good as the new dock is (and I do like the fact you can now call it up whenever) it’s no match for the ability to scroll through literally every compatible app to find what you need.
Usually I’m using slideover to quickly look something up in another app. I’m often not going to know what that is or where to look for it until that happens, at which point - when inevitably the app I want isn’t in the dock - slideover becomes a waste of time, and I may as well have dropped straight out to home screen like I used to in ios 8.
I hear what you are saying; others have the same feelings as you, especially when they Use many apps. Everyone will have different preferences. For me, I was only using about 6 to 8 apps in multitasking anyway, so having them all in the dock works out fine. And my view is that this is far better than that long scrolling list of every app in slide over from iOS 10.
