i upgraded my wife’s iPhone X to 12. Ever since she’s missing messages. Some show up, some don’t....unless she manually shuts down the Messages app and restarts it. Then the missing messages suddenly show up. For awhile until they stop again. Then, a restart of app and they show up again. Maddening.

Even weirder....she will get new message notifications on her series 2 watch, but these same messages won’t show up in Messages app until/unless she restarts that app.

Anyone else having this issue?

We’re having the issue where iMessages are being sent to the wrong people. I’ll send something to my wife and it will go to my daughter. Or my daughter will

This is a different issue. Are you sharing the same Apple ID? The fix is to have each person use a personal Apple ID that is not shared. Then you also have to check the iMessage settings to make sure multiple people are not receiving messages at the same address or phone number (imessage lets you register multiple addresses).

The issue the OP is describing is not something I have heard about.

As noted, this isn't an issue with shared Apple ID's. She has her own Apple ID. Simply some messages choose to notify but not be delivered, while others are delivered just fine. And it's per thread, not for the whole app. Sometimes she'll skip a few messages from someone (even though there will be notifications telling her she had them) but when she clicks through to see the thread, they won't be there. Then other messages will show up just fine. Then, she will restart the Messages app and suddenly all those "missing" messages are back.

Should note this doesn't appear to be an issue with SMS messaging. Only iMessages.

Troubleshooting I've done thus far:

-Logged her out/back into iCloud
-Change message retention in Messages app (30 days/forever/etc). I'd read somewhere that can sometimes "unstick" the issue.
-rebooted phone. Turned off ALL apps to ensure nothing else was background interfering (rare but I've read it can happen)
-Unpaired her watch, repaired it. Then upgraded watch and did it again. Since she is running a Series 2 watch thought maybe new Watch OS was interfering. Didn't help.

Only thing left to do I can think of (which I really don't want to do) is a complete wipe/setup as a NEW iPhone device. She has all her data in iCloud so it's not end of world but just takes awhile to get everything back to good.

Any other ideas before I go down that path?

I would contact Apple... there could be something cached in the routing of certain threads or recipients. Is this an issue only with threads involving people you have both iMessaged before? Does it happen with both one-to-one threads and group messages?

Happens to all iMessage threads, groups, new/old threads and users, appears to be random but I’m sure there’s a pattern. Doesn’t seem to impact SMS messages.
