I have a multifunction brother laser printer connected to my wifi network. Printing from my iPhone was fine on iOS13 through the brother iPrint app.

Since I updated my iPhone to iOS14, the app can no longer detect the printer on the network. I can manually enter the IP and it will print fine, but I have to do this everytime since the iPhone just doesn't see the printer automatically anymore. Any idea what's going on? Tried various things, including removing and re-installing the app. No go. Wondering if anybody is having similar issues.

My brother printer is DCP-1616NW.

Check under Privacy > Local Network to verify if the app has access to see the printer. This happened with mine.

It's enabled, yet the app still couldn't see the printer automatically. Still need to enter the IP manually... Hmmmm

Looking around the internet, seems like the problem is not exclusive to brother. There are complaints from users of HP, Epson, etc as well. Seems like it resolves around iOS 14's new privacy features.

*sigh. Should've waited longer before upgrading to iOS 14. 14.1 makes no difference, so it's up to the printer manufacturer to fix their apps, but they probably are more interested in people to buy their newer printers....

Have you contacted brother?
I filled up a form on their website, and also sent them an email. Who knows where that will go.... I tried emailing the in the past about recycling their toner and never received a response...

The brother iPrint&Scan app. The app is required to print from iOS or Android.

My Android phone has no issues. Only the iPhone that’s already on iOS 14.

Is it definitely required? I used to have a Brother printer and I could print to it via the share function.

Well, don’t know what happened, now it seems to fix itself. Now the app behaves like before, automatically detects the printer. My printer did have a new IP assigned from my router than the last time I had to enter manually.

Weird.
