iOS17 Contacts photo / profile pic is atrocious

iOS 17 Contacts app is one of the most actrocious things to ever come out by Apple. In the past, it wasn't great, but at least it worked. You had to set a profile picture (which often times got miss cropped by iCloud, but acceptable).

Now it's a 12 step wizard and you can create multiple versions for the same person.

I can't even begin to start on how many issues there are with the contacts poster and profile picture creation. I can't even begin to list out because there are simply so many bugs, and very confusing sections.

Anyone else having these problems?

Here's some off the top of my head:
1. MacOS doesn't have poster creation, and its profile pic creation overrides iOS contact profile pic, often times conflicting
2. The entire user interface is somewhat unusable, with lots of bugs like keyboard not showing up when you hit the search bar
3. It copies the home screen UI, albiet very poorly, and often times the crop when you are creating the picture doesn't carry forward to when you are previewing it and going back from previewing cancels all your changes.
4. Who needs to create multiple versions of poster/profile for the same person? How do you toggle the different versions?
5. Profile pictures, once cropped, don't crop properly across all devices, often times remaining to be the full size rather than crop size
6. Contacts without this poster / profile often show up with a nasty grey background or blurred background. What happened to how it worked before?

I simply can't believe this went into full production.

Most of these issues will surely get remedied once the other platforms get the new contacts poster functionality (only iOS has them yet, not even iPadOS).

What I‘d really love to see is support for more than one contact poster built in. As it stands, you pick one poster for yourself and that‘s it. No way to e.g. have one poster be visible to close friends and another one for business contacts (you can create more than one poster, but you can only ever have one active which automatically gets plastered everywhere, including your Apple ID picture).

They should allow us to specify which poster is shared with what contact or contact list.

It took me forever to even understand how I can change the „profile“ picture (the circle thingy) since the introduction of „posters“. I did not realize, they merged it and you basically have to set up both together. Also, for some reason you can do the same within contacts settings and also messages. Confusing yet I am sure no one I know is aware contact posters are even a thing

I want multiple for myself. Example: one business headshot for business related contacts, one leisure one for family and friends, maybe a memoji one for people I don‘t know that well etc.

I already group my contacts with lists that way, yet contact posters don‘t allow me to share individual posters with individuals without jumping through insane hoops (like changing the mode to always ask before sharing, picking your e.g. business poster and going through all business contacts applying them there… doesn‘t help that you can ONLY share your poster in iMessage threads, which don’t exist in my country, or during calls…).

Yes, multiple for myself, makes sense. But multiple for your contacts? You can't even switch them on the fly anyway...

Yeah I never talked about multiple for contacts, you keep bringing that up. I agree that it doesn‘t really make sense, they probably figured the code is there already for your own card so might as well give people the option to have multiple for their friends they can switch between when they get tired of one.
