I have a 3rd generation iPod touch. It is an 8GB. I restored to factory settings (4.2.1) and upgraded iTunes to 10.5. I hit check for updates and there is no 5. I downloaded an iOS5 link and attempted to manually restore and update it. iTunes says the iPod cannot be updated because the firmware is not compatible.

The Apple site states that the 3rd generation iPod is compatible. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Tim

Yes You Are Missing Something

When the iPod touch got updated for the third time the 8Gb model actually remained the same as the 2nd generation, only the 32 and 64Gb models were new(3rd gen).
