Since upgrading my 3GS it has become really unresponsive.

From a cold start, opening Messages can take about 7 seconds, with just a white screen whilst it's loading.

Other times the phone seems to 'pause' before accepting any inputs.

I've done a restore from backup but the problem still appears to be there.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I could do to improve it, as I read others saying iOS5 is really smooth on their phones.

Cheers,

Greg

Yeah, I had no real problem running iOS 5 on my 3GS for the week I was using it. Of course it's smoother on my 4S, but it was perfectly useable on my 3GS.

I have a 3GS with iOS 5 on it. It some instances it is a little slower than iOS 4 was (ex. Messages takes 1 second longer to open).

However, overall, it is close to the speediness of iOS 4.

I have a 3GS too. I just tried launching iMessage after a restart, and it took just under three seconds. Not sure what the problem you might be having is. Is it trying to load up a long conversation, or one that includes pictures? (I'm not even sure if that would make a difference.)

I find iOS 5 to be just as fast as iOS4 was--no discernible change in speed, extra lags, etc. for me.

Upgrading from 3GS to 4S

Hi All,
My friend got her new 4S today but has not upgraded her 3GS to iOS5 yet.
I told her to go through the process and get her iCloud created and then she wont have to sync the 4S with the PC she can just activate it and let the cloud do its thing.

Was this good advice or is there a better way for her to get her 4S, going without upgrading her 3GS?

Thanks for your help...

Sometimes the rudeness and the arrogance of people on this board amaze me.

Many people are having this same issue with the 3GS and the 4. When 5.0 came out, everything was snappy and fast, faster then 4.x... But now all of a sudden there is 100% cpu usage and HUGE battery drain even when you're NOT doing anything on the phone.

This is a known issue, and I hope someone figures out what the hell is causing it because my iPhone 4 is looking more and more like a paper weight.

My iPhone 4 was running a bit slow, and I took advice on this forum and did this:

1) Restore
2) "Reset All Settings"

The settings reset doesn't get rid of anything, it just wipes out wallpapers, ringtones, etc. For whatever reason, doing this sped up the OS considerably.

Hope it helps!
