Tests have proven that iOS 5 is more optimized for the iP4 then iOS 4 was. You rack in a few thousand more points in browser tests just for starters. And the animations have actually been smoother for me all across the board with my iP4 on iOS 5.

it has made my 4 slower...or at least go through heavy periods of lag when switching apps etc

No

Everything is smoother now with iOS5 on my 4, especially pinching/zooming and opening applications.

My friend with an iPhone 4 had a slightly slower phone until he did the following:

1) Sync all contacts, etc to iCloud.
2) Fully wipe the phone.
3) On the iOS 5 startup wizard, restore from iCloud.

And that's it. He had a faster phone after that. You guys need to stop using the iTunes backups. They don't work. iCloud is better since it only does a selective and minimal backup, not a complete image of your original phone.

Try it out.

After installing iOS 5 both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 are amazingly fast with no lags, for example when starting apps or opening folders, or opening pdfs in iBooks, etc. I am very happy with new OS.

Yep, I still have my 3GS and I restored it the way I just mentioned and its faster than it was with iOS 4.

Made mine very fast. Browser and all else. Formal tests have demonstrated this.

Every upgrade we here the same story. Same with poorer battery. Until people realize they are using the device more.

My iPhone 4 seems slower after going to iOS 5. I haven't spent much time messing with it because the 4S runs great!
