Hello,

I just upgraded to iOS 5 and backed up my photos. iTunes requires you to choose the folder you wish to sync your photos, mine is appropriately labelled "iPhone Pics" and normally it just syncs. Afterwards on my iPhone there will be Camera Roll and Photo Library (synced from iPhone Pics folder).

Now iOS 5 syncs the same folder but creates the Camera Roll, Photo Library and adds the iPhone Pics folder which means I duplicate all my photos.

Does anyone know how I can stop this from happening so all I have is just the Camera Roll and Photo Library folder agains?

Thanks in advance!!

I don't have a solution, but it's driving me crazy also. Glad to hear I am not the only one experiencing it.

Anyone?

Duplicate Photo Stream Library Solved

The duplicate photo stream library drove me crazy as well. I figured there was library for both my AppleID used for iTunes and the iCloud account. Here's how to fix:

1) Delete the account you use for iCloud.
2) Log into iCloud using the same account used for iTunes.
3) Take a picture and verify it appears in the Photo Stream.
4) Turn off the photo stream for the iTunes account (the duplicate library will be removed at this point).
5) Delete the iTunes account from iCloud.
6) Log into your iCloud account.

It's a very roundabout method, but it does work. It also fixed my problem of clearing my stream when logged into iCloud.com.

----------

After I re-read your message, this may be to solve a different problem I was experiencing. I had duplicate "Photo Stream" libraries on the iPhone. I was not experiencing duplicate libraries for anything else.

Thanks

Thanks, but I dont have my photos sync to iCloud- they only sync to my PC. I think we are talking about two different issues, but I appreciate the post, nonetheless!

I have the same problem and I used Dropbox . Move the photos in the album using Dropbox from the computer to the iPhone. Dropbox let me save them in the camera roll album.. When I have all the pictures in the camera roll, then uncheck the sync album in iTunes, to erase the duplicate album in the iPhone. Now I have one album or create another from the phone, no more duplicates.

Hope this help!
Excuse for any errors in the writing but English is not my forte.

Thanks for the great suggestion, but does why Apple make us do all these crazy workarounds???

not a bug

This is not a bug! It's just iOS behavior that may seem strange at first. Got me puzzled for a while also.

Photo Library is a "smart folder" that shows all your synced photos. For example, if you're syncing two albums from iPhoto, they will show on the iPhone as separate folders, AND all their photos will show in the Photo library.

Or, if you're only syncing "Folder X" on your computer to your iPhone, Photo Library and "Folder X" on the iPhone will show the same content and seem like duplicate folders, which they are not.

So the photos showing in Photo Library are not duplicates and there's no need to get rid of them. :)

They are exactly duplicates for sure. I have 57 in photo library and underneath that I have my PC synced photo album with 57 of the exact same photos. I only want 1 file with them in and not a copy but you can't delete it and if you untick sync in iTunes then they all disappear. Never happened with 4.3.5. It's ridiculous and taking up room on my phone. Does anyone have a solution to this ?

photolibrary = all photos sync'd

for example, when you select a folder to sync, you have an option to sync all folders within "Cars" (10 pics, 3 sub folders). like if you have sub folders "Honda" (5 pics), "Toyota" (3 pics), and "Dodge" (6 pics).

when you sync the parent folder and all sub folders, ios creates separate albums for the parent folder and all sub folders.

it will display as: Cars (10 pics), Honda (5 pics), Toyota (3 pics), Dodge (6 pics).

in photolibrary, its just 1 folder (24 pics) for all the photos combined without the folders.

it does seem silly to have photolibrary, but thats how it works.

its kind of like how the Mail.app works with just 1 inbox tab/section for all email addresses. you have the option to select that particular email's inbox or you can have it combined into 1 section for all email addresses.

As mentioned above, I have the issue, but I don't think are taking up additional space twice. I think they are only DISPLAYING twice.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I am correct.

Nevertheless it's VERY unnecessary and annoying!!!
