My 32GB went from having 5.7GB free to 6.2GB free after the iOS5 installation. All the same content was synced both times, so it seems that iOS5 is a tad more lightweight, if anything.

mine was way more drastic than that. i went from having like 17 free GB to only having about 4 GB free. i don't know what the deal is? the yellow usage bar that consists of other on iTunes went from basically nothing to 10.9 GB. i don't know what to do..

I actually gained some space when I installed iOS 5 GM but that's probably cause I deleted a lot of apps that I had when on 4.3.5
