Please read on - a proper bricking, not just a failure to update!

My iPhone 4 has been bricked after trying to update it. I got the usual failure to upgrade message due to apples servers being overloaded. This happened a couple of times and on the third attempt, it started the restore but stopped midway through. The iPhone won't boot into anything now...it is stuck in a boot loop. The computer doesn't recognise it, all I get is the following sequence - apple logo, power down 'circle', apple logo, power down 'circle'....forever!

Hard reset does nothing!

Anybody got any suggestions?

Still no luck - it won't even go into dfu mode. The apple logo appears, iTunes does nothing, and the boot loop starts again!

Just found out it's warranty period expired a week ago too, so it doesn't look like apple will help me out without payment...even though their update messed it up!

Any other suggestions?!

I have the exact same symptoms...

Hi Christian,

My experience is just like yours. Right now I'm waiting for the device to run out of battery to see if that makes it act any different. And at the same time I try to find more information on other websites. If I find anything I will post it here for you as well. My iPhone 4 is less than a year old, so I might be lucky to get support by apple...

OK, I managed to get dfu mode to work.

Plug the iPhone into iTunes and press and hold the home button and the power button. If it doesn't work, just keep trying! Eventually, iTunes or my phone recognised it wanted to go into dfu mode. It then restored ok.

Hope this helps anyone that might have got into this situation too!

i'm having exactly the same trouble. cant switch it on or off or get any computer to recognise it.

I've managed to get my pc to see it now, i followed the video tutorial on this site:
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034

But i'm now getting a different error message every time i try to restore it. sometimes 3200, sometimes 3073, sometimes 1604. All in all VERY frustrating :(
