Hey everyone,

I may be the only one with this issue but I highly doubt that given the amount of people who installed iOS7 on their iPhones early.

I have an iPhone 4s and I installed iOS7 on Sunday. I was well aware that people claimed that doing so would eliminate the possibility of syncing my phone. However, now that iOS7 is actually released, I tried connecting my iPhone to my computer and it will not appear in iTunes.

When I plug the USB into the computer (using Windows 8), it makes the sound that a device has been connected. Then nothing. It doesn't show up anywhere. Then after about 5 seconds it makes the sound that a USB device has been disconnected. Every 5 seconds following it continues to make the disconnected device sound.

I tried doing a DFU iTunes restore with no success. I received only one notification the first time and it claimed that "the last USB device that was connected has malfunctioned.

I have no idea what to do. The device is functioning perfectly. I upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes and every other possible solution.

Try turning off both your computer and phone and start computer first, then phone, then plug in usb. Good luck. Post results.

Hey guys,

tried both of those methods. Did not work.

I also tried going into general settings, turning off "find my iPhone" which apparently has been an issue with some people, and also erased all content and settings. No go.

I have no idea what to do at this stage. It may just be my laptop.

Because it recognizes that a device is being plugged in, makes the sound, but the iPhone neither charges, or shows up. It does, however, charge in a wall socket.

This happens. It has to do with the Apple Device drivers. Uninstall and reinstall iTunes. There is an Apple support article on this somewhere.

Edit: Here you go: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

Thanks, however, I already performed all the necessary steps to solve a normal issue such as the ones they have a guide for on that link. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes twice to no avail.

The problem is that you are using Windows 8.

Thank you for that very constructive and useful info. Do you actually know, for certain, that Windows 8 is the issue? I don't need fanboy comments, thanks.

You did all the steps at the bottom? Such as uninstalling Apple Device Support, reinstalling iTunes, connecting in recovery mode and going through the device manager, etc? The Device Support is a separate entry from iTunes and uninstalling iTunes doesn't touch it.

Yes, indeed I have. I wasn't going to post anything on here without trying everything I could think of or find. This is sort of my last resort until I can try connecting it on another computer.

Try creating a new windows user and setting up itunes as a new user on that account. If that doesn't work, download all the motherboard drivers from your manufacturer and reinstall.

Did you check to see if you have iTunes 11.1?

Yes, I have updated. I mentioned that in OP. Unfortunately that seems to have no affect.

Thanks for the info! I will try that next. Creative idea. Will post results.

Your USB drivers sound corrupted. Do what I said about the manufacturer motherboard drivers. Also, try plugging another USB device in and see if that works (preferably a camera).

Also, run diagnostics and post the result: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4216

Oh, and make sure you're using a real iPhone cable. Some of the ones from car chargers are charge only and can't be used to sync.

----------

Finally, try installing iTunes in compatibility mode: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4533180?start=60&tstart=0. In fact, try a different iPhone cable even if it is a real one.

I have a real apple USB cable. I even borrowed one from someone else who has a brand new one sitting around. I tried connecting another device, camera, and USB mouse. Both connected without any problems. Started a new account and installed iTunes 11.1 again. Still unsuccessful. I will try reinstalling the drivers soon. If that doesn't work or compatibility mode doesn't, I'm going to do a complete system reboot.

Okay. A little bit of success. Now my device is showing up in My Computer and is charging. However, it still refuses to be recognized in iTunes 11.1.0.

It's not seeing your USB subsystem. Restart the computer and try again.

Thanks so much for the help. No need for any more though. I finally got it fixed. After trying all those steps and about 5 hours of working at it.. I had nothing solved. So I decided to just simply go into Program Files and Programs Files (x86) and remove absolutely every little file I could find that was associated with apple. I then used CCleaner to clean the computer and fix any issues. Restarted it up, installed iTunes again, and it finally worked.

Again, thanks so much for the help! You really helped out quite a lot!
