Hi all,

As many users have noted, ever since iOS9.1 my iCloud backups would not complete. I would get errors stating that the "iCloud backup could not be completed". I looked on forums, websites etc and none of the generic "solutions" corrected my issue. I have plenty of iCloud storage (~40gb), have turned my iCloud backup on/off, deleted old backups, and nothing works. Oddly enough my iPad has never had these issues and still continues to backup correctly.

This morning when I saw the iOS9.2 update I was thrilled hoping this may finally resolve my issue. However after repeated attempts I am getting the same error. I tried searching these forums and could not find a thread. Can anyone help? Is anyone else having the same issue?

Thanks in advance!

Hmm I've had no problems with the automatic iCloud backup until now with iOS 9.2. It shows "no data" for my phone and all of my apps (when you tap manage storage) and it won't back anything up. I have my full 5.0gb of data. Weird.

Yea it's quite frustrating. When I try backing up and receive the error, oddly enough my total iCloud storage goes down giving me the impression that something did back up. However as you noted when I go and check it shows no data for the backup and all of the apps.

When I was searching for help even during iOS9.1, a lot of people had commented how they called Apple support and that they acknowledged it was an issue and would be addressed in an update. However it doesn't seem like 9.2 fixed it. I will add that I can backup manually to my laptop, but that is obviously less than ideal.

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and back in? I haven't had a problem with iCloud backup since 9.0 Beta. I have had single issue running 9.2 Beta 3/4(Final)

I hadn't, but I just did that now to no avail. I'm really puzzled at this. As mentioned thankfully I can still do a local backup to my laptop, but obviously lose the whole convenience behind automatic iCloud backups. I just wish Apple would address this or at the very least acknowledge the problem. At this point I have no idea if this will ever be fixed.

Yea it's frustrating. It makes me wonder if I'll have the same problem when I upgrade my phone because I don't know what the root cause is. No way to tell if it's something with my phone or worse yet my whole iCloud account.

If you're iCloud back isn't completing and it shows "no data" for all apps for that device's backup you may be able to solve it by doing a backup on iTunes, DFU restoring the phone and then restoring from the back up. The issue is on the server side that was caused during the transition to a new system at the data centers. If this still doesn't resolve the issue you will have to wait until the engineers solve it themselves. You can document the issue with AppleCare over the phone or at an Apple Store by making a reservation for the Genius Bar so the engineers are aware that you have been affected.

I hate to offer this suggestion, but I think you're gong to have to restore as new. I had similar problems when I restored my iPhone 6 Plus to the 6s Plus and this eventually fixed all my problems. Doing so wasn't as bad as I had feared, since a lot of your data is stored in separate iCloud files; eg, your contacts, calanders, and photos, so those get restored when you log back into your iCloud account. Some data is lost however, such as your messaging history and app layout.

I took screen shots of all my home pages before I did the restore, so I could see which apps I needed to redownload. In a lot of cases, my app data was also restored.

A way around this it to first take an encrypted iTunes Backup of the phone you wish to Restore from. Next step set up the new phone as new and do an iCloud Backup to set things off. Now go back to your Mac/PC and do a Restore of that Encrypted Backup made earlier. From now on iCloud Automatic Backups should work as the server has registered the device from the initial iCloud Backup.

Oh so the set up as new didn't work? Ugh I wonder what the true issue is and if Apple actually knows how to fix it. None of these solutions seem to work nor do they seem to be optimal. I don't want to lose anything when resolving the issue. What's the point of the back-up if in order for me to fix the issue I sacrifice things I want to keep backed up? I don't want to lose my message history or anything...

The thing is its just every ****ing day i wake up and something doesn't work. Backups doesn't work, Siri calls phone numbers when i ask to call on FaceTime audio, then when I'm on call and i open an app it doesn't fit correctly to adjust to that retarded green call bar on top.

I don't start me on hotspots.

I'm in the same boat with the same devices (iPhone 6 and iPad mini 2, iPad backs up perfectly to iCloud). The Apple Store noted my issue to send it off to the engineering team, so I've just given up on iCloud backups and use iTunes like it's 2008. It still just works.

Ugh yea. I have basically given up at this point as well. iPhone 6 has been having this issue since iOS9.1 but my iPad Air 2 never had the issue and is still backing up as expected. Right now I have to backup using iTunes on my laptop. This is so frustrating.

So
Tried again and seem to have found a solution, turned backup on, went into manage storage, clicked on the newly created 0kb backup and turned everything off, including camera roll. Performed the backup which went through. Now I'm adding everything back in slowly and its seems to be still working.
Strangely I did try this before and it didn't work but seems to be working now

I just tried this myself and no luck. Went into my 0 kb backup, turned all apps off, and when I tried backing up it still gives me the "the last backup could not be completed" message. This is so frustrating.
