I need to make a lot of long distance calls to very costly destinations. I was using Skype, but I accidentally entered the wrong Verified by Visa password when adding credit. Now for "security precautions" they have suspended my ability to add funds for up to a month. No amount of pleading will change their minds.

I tried signing up with Yahoo! (dialpad.com), but their client only runs on Windows XP. Can you suggest any other services I can use?

I second the Gizmo/SIP phone suggestion. You can use the gizmo GUI in conjunction with a decent headset.

and/or

Buy a SIP phone modem and hook a standard phone to it. To make an internet call, dial # + phone number. To make a standard land line call dial the phone number as you normally would. I use this set up ... Gizmo/SIP is my "long distance company." For local calls I still have the traditional land line. My wife wishes to have access to the tried and true 911 service or I would also dump my local phone company.

My long distance bill has gone from $40+ a month to just under $10. The modem was a $60 one time investment which has already paid for itself.
