There's some good offers right now with both. I've been looking to buy a new tablet lately after selling the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro (too big and heavy for tablet use).

iPad 10 256GB is 550€.
Tab S9 128GB is 580€ (I have a microSD 128GB).

Some considerations to keep in mind IMO:

- I prefer the screen aspect ratio of the iPad for better web surfing and productivity.
- Tab S9 has 120Hz OLED panel and includes the S Pen, although I'll only use it for signing documents.
- S9 will get 3 more OS updates vs 6 more probably on iPad.
- iPad has better official keyboard.
- I have an S24+, so will be nice to have compatibility with the Samsung tablet, but I also have an iMac M3 and compatibility with the computer is better with iPad (backups are useful).
- iPad is easier to hold in the hand and weights less.

On paper, seems like it's a no-brainer. The S9, for almost the same price, is leaps ahead the basic iPad, but ecosystem and tablet experience and apps are probably better in iOS.

For almost the same price, which would you guys buy? It's mostly going to be used as a tablet: web surfing, some light productivity, watching videos, etc.

The iPad seems like it would last longer (with ~6 years of updates), and if you want to do some "light productivity," I think it'll work better with any productivity software (like Pages) that you might have on your Mac.

The Tab S9 would only be a better choice if you have lots of Android-specific apps or use cases.

I own a Galaxy Tab S7 FE and a Galaxy Tab S7+. I rarely use either. I prefer using my iPad. That’s not to say the Galaxy tablets are bad. They are actually good for productivity with DEX and media consumption. I also like the Samsung TV app that’s included. The hardware is top notch but I prefer the iPad’s aspect ratio vs the current Galaxy Tabs. What’s odd is that just a few years ago Samsung switched their tablets to the aspect ratio the iPad’s use. Now they are back to a 16:10 display.

But with that said, keep in mind that the Galaxy Tab S10’s could arrive this August and Samsung tends to get real aggressive with their promotions. I would wait to see what the Galaxy Tab S10 will be hardware wise.

For pure content consumption, I’d probably get the Samsung as the OLED is a superior viewing experience and aspect ratio is better for video. For any other use, I’d lean back towards the iPad.

I feel the same. The screen quality and screen ratio of the Samsung tab is way better for consuming media than the iPad. But for everything else I would choose the iPad too
