iPad 11 vs Galaxy Tab S4

This should be interesting. I’ve only used Apple tablets (currently an early 9.7 iPad pro) and my wife likes her Samsung Tab S2. This year for Christmas she bought me an iPad Pro 11 64GB and I bought her a new Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 64GB. Unfortunately, Santa’s helper says we can’t open them until Christmas Day, so the fun will have to wait.

Her Galaxy didn’t cost nearly as much (currently $548) and includes a headphone jack, pencil, expandable storage and has an OLED display. And we all know what the new iPad Pro costs, along with their overpriced accessories. But my iPads have been bulletproof, so I guess you get what you pay for.

I’m curious to see how much real-world difference there is in these two devices. I know that there is a big difference in iOS app choices and system updates vs. Android, so advantage iPad there. But she doesn’t use apps nearly as much as I do, does more normal consumption stuff, and doesn’t have to deal with the bloated iTunes software.

I’m hoping it will be a win-win situation for both us with these tablets. I’ll update later with my thoughts on build & picture quality, performance, etc.

I have an older Samsung 10 note it’s been working great for many years,but it is really outdated today so i also bought the Samsung TabA a much cheaper tablet the one you have bought, but it has worked great and having a micro memory card and being able to connect direct to my computers sure beats my 2017 iPadPro for many things.

Besides my 10.5 iPP, I have an 8" Galaxy Tab S2. The S2 works great and is my mini tablet.

I really enjoyed my TabS2 but I sold it for an iPad Pro 9.7” in 2016.

The TabS4 is amazing, however the Sanspdragon 835 CPU is very Outdated. And I just don’t trust Samsung Tablet they only get 1 OS Update in their Life Times.

Websites and Apps are just optimized for iOS.

If Samsung improved the Tab S5 with a Sanpdragon 855 and a 120Hz OLED Display for 2019 they can be a contender.

If the S-Pen in the S4 is the same thing you get with the S3 then the Apple Pencil is miles better. Didn't like the lag I saw in S3.

The ability to use a mouse, more open access to full desktop features, Dex, external storage, and displays make the Samsung a great option. I just don't find the same level of applications available on that side of the camp for my needs, but it is super tempting.

What's up with the claims that even though it offers external storage the accessing of files/contents in Micro-SD cards is slower than if the stuff was already in the Samsung device?

I read this comment somewhere and wonder if (if really true) doesn't defeat this idea.

Just what files have people found to load and run slower from a micro memory card in a Samsung tablet?
Maybe the type memory card is the reason, I have never noticed any slow loading or running problems using micro memory cards i my Samsung tablets.

There are certain files that I am almost sure the Tab S4 will not run smoothly, especially if tries to do that from its micro SD card. Try a Matroska one, a direct rip/lossless from any Ultra-HD Blu-ray, which for the movie alone might have 60, 70 GB. The IPP 10.5 runs these smoothly but only since iOS 11, which added support for the codec.

Since this kind of file is not only big but heavy and maybe CPU demanding this is an excellent test to see if this device can match the iPad. For an app to run videos I suggest nPlayer, also available in the Play Store.

I could see a file of that size (70GB) possibly being a problem. Mp4's of 6-7GB are not when run from my S2's uSD.

Guess this is why people today can go to any Best Buy, get a Windows Computer for less then $500 and run everything without a problem.
