Coming from a Surface (cool hardware but still windows 10 unfortunately) I'm interested in the 12.9 iPad Pro series.
I found the 1gen for a really good price while the 2gen is considerably more expensive.
Since I don't need the newest display technology, would the 1gen be good for me?
Or iOS11 with all his new functions is already buggy/laggy on the 1gen?
Are you still rocking with the original iPad Pro 12.9?

Thx in advance guys

I have a first generation iPad Pro, 12.9 inch, on iOS 11 and I have not noticed any degradation in performance.

I’ve had my 12.9” iPad Pro since launch and it’s running just as good as when I bought it running the latest.

I am still rocking an iPad 12.9 1st gen as my primary computer/laptop. iOS 11 runs very well and the multitasking is very smooth. As my primary computer, I access work and home Windows 10 desktop computers from my iPad... using Jump Desktop, Logitech Create Keyboard case (newest version without screen scratch issue) and a Citrix X1 mouse easily makes it my laptop replacement.

iOS 11 RUNS fine on my 1st gen 12.9 Pro, however, battery life has taken a significant hit. I wholeheartedly agree with @G35flyer regarding Jump Desktop and the Citrix X1 mouse... great combination with the Apple Smart Keyboard (I don't like the added bulk of full keyboard cases and the inability to quickly/easily remove the keyboard to use the Pro as a tablet).

Another positive vote.

My launch day 12.9” 2015 iPad Pro runs great with iOS 11. The iPad Pro was very fast when it first came out, and it has 4GB of RAM which no doubt help tremendously with iOS 11.

Battery life is down, but I attribute that to the age of the battery rather than an artifact of iOS 11.

I don't chalk my battery experience to the age of the battery... the drop happened immediately after installing iOS 11.

Interesting. Mine did not directly coincide with iOS 11. It’s been slowly diminishing. I’ve used this iPad hard, though, with easily 7+ hours of screen-on time daily for both work and relaxation since Nov. 2015. So there’s got to be 500 full charge cycles on the battery at least.

And I wouldn’t say the battery life is bad. It’s just not bottomless like it was when it was new.
