First M1 12.9 from yesterday had to be exchanged for a dead pixel. Now on my new unit, there seem to be some very strange marks on the glass. They run along the left side and along the bottom. They are dead straight lines. After some hard scrubbing with a microfiber cloth they disappear.... until you touch that area again they come back. They are hard to see but in the right light, they are clearly visible.

So I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this on their 2021 12.9? Could it be the coating on the glass?

EDIT: When measuring inside the rectangle it's exactly 11 inches..

btw there is a long thread about it on Reddit

not really noticed it much until now and thought it was from being inside the magic keyboard but now I wonder…

Ya, I think a lot have it they just don't notice it.

Are you bothered by it?

Mine did that when I was wiping first with the cleaning wipe then microfibre cloths provided by screen protector kits. It goes away when I use a fairly damp microfibre cloth. Weird it is..

Not really because I only really notice it when there’s a lot or reflectivity and when the screen is off or the background is dark and at that point I see my fingerprints a lot more than those lines.

I’m not returning it. There’s no apple store here in Antwerp so I would have to go to Brussels and that’s way too annoying.

Same issue here with mine - 12.9 model.

The marks disappeared after cleaning with a damp microfibre. I’m waiting to see if they reappear. They were only really visible with the screen off and when there was a bright reflection. Appeared to be perfectly in line with one of the sensors, and extend on to the bezel not just the screen.

Fingers crossed they are gone but I’m not hopeful given what others have experienced.

On mine the lines are back having disappeared after cleaning with a micro fibre cloth, but very feint. You have to really look for them and they are only visible when the screen is off and you catch the light just right on the screen.

They are exactly 35mm from the screen edge.

And in portrait layout, one line runs down on the left hand side 35mm from the edge, directly underneath the small sensor at the top in the bezel, and the other 35mm from the bottom of the screen.

If they’re reappearing I’d definitely return it.
