How long do you think the iPad 2017 will be supported for? I’m debating on getting one tomorrow for $250. It seems like a great tablet that would be useful for reading my books, YouTube, Netflix, and browsing. I love my SE it’s the best phone I’ve had and now want o venture into iPads. I don’t need a pencil and have Bluetooth keyboards. Thoughts?

I would do the 32GB version as I don’t use a lot of space as is on my 64GB SE.

You can’t go wrong with the 2017 5th generation iPad. The build quality is outstanding, the Retina display excellent, and the price is the best ever for an iPad. I’d say at least 3, maybe 4 releases of IOS. So maybe 4 or 5 years at the least. I plan on staying in IOS 11 and keeping good performance as long as possible.

The A9 in the iPad (2017) is expected to last through iOS 13.

So you’re looking at another 2-3 years.

As iPad 2017 has an A9 instead of A10x I think it will have a shorter life than the 2017 pro. But in all seriousness I would suggest you do not upgrade iOS beyond one or two versions so it is a moot point.

Base on your usage the iPad 2017 is made for you and it is a really good value.

Rumor is that there will be a price decrease on regular iPads next year. Who knows

Well I can say $250 is a steal for what this has and can do (the same as my phone, but better screen resolution). I’m typing on it now, and can see my books and all that. It’s fantastic. =) Even if a new one comes out soon or the price drops, I’m still happy with this one so far =D

I love my iPad 2017 (using it now to type this). I use it daily and iOS 11 has really changed it, it has more of a computer feel to it. I am a PC user, have to for my job, and I use a I Microsoft Surface Pro, at the office it stays docked with dual monitors, when working remotely I’m able to use my 2017 iPad as a second monitor with the duet app and it works great. I can vpn into into the office with it and use Remote Desktop and email, web surfing, Word, Excel, texting, streaming video & audio all work great. Sure I could have gotten an iPad Pro, but for the price I thought I’d give this model a try and it does everything I need without any issues. No regrets with this model.

If we go by Apple’s history of supported device upgrades. I’d say the iPad 5th generation will go for 5+ years. So iOS14 or higher.

iPad 2 was supported for 5 years, the 2017 iPad was given beefier specs for its time, so I don’t see any reason it won’t be supported by Apple for 5-plus years. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Kallum.

The iPad 2017 won't get iOS 14

iPhone 4S along with iPad 2, iPad mini and iPad 3 all had similar processors and they all didn't get iOS 10 and they got like 5 years. Assuming iPhone 5s could do the same and this iPad might but probably will stop at iOS 14 meaning that there'll be no iOS 14 on this iPad. My iPad is one of my best buddies. I don't think I get 10 hours but I blame it on Asphalt 8. :)

So I think my iPad isn’t working right... I took it off the charger at 8PM last night and have used it pretty lightly. It says I have 86% battery still... I must be in the calibration phase.

:p. Or do they last this long?

Oh, they last a very long time. 10-12 hours of use is the norm with it being higher in some cases. Pushing it hard gets you a solid 9 hours still.

Since the iPhone SE and iPad 2017 have the same A9 chipset, they will likely stop receiving updates at the same time. I'd guess at least 3 years worth of support remaining given Apple hasn't cut off support for A7 and A8 yet so those will be on the chopping block before the A9.

The iPad 2017 has amazing battery life, in my experience. Longest I've seen on an iPad since the iPad 4.

The Air, Air 2 and Pro 9.7 all had shorter battery life compared to the iPad 3 and 4 in our household.
