Hi

Im looking for an iPad 2017. I would like to ask, if anyone has expirenced any limitations with IOS 11 that could be a problem. I dont want to buy an device and get 3 months later, problems with the upgrade.

Thanks

You’ll definitely have the new and improved multitasking feature and the new dock.... both are awesome and I use multitasking quite a bit. My MacBook usage has cut down by more than 75%. I have a Zagg keyboard with my iPad so there’s no need for my Mac except for iTunes.

Multiwindow multitasking is more limited on the 2017 iPad (2 apps split view inactive when you've got a floating app). However, given the size of the display, it's not something that bothers me at all. To be perfectly honest, I rarely use split view on my 9.7 iPads. I find that more useful on the 12.9 models.

I'm running the iOS 11 Public Beta on the 2017 iPad and performance has been great thus far. No noticeable slowdown coming from iOS 10.

I don't own the iPad 2017, but I own an Air first gen and I've heard they're very similar. If that is true, then you won't be able to multitask. This is the reason why I'm planning on getting the iPad Pro gen 2. It drives me nuts that I cannot browse the web while I'm on YouTube. Also, you won't be able to use the Apple Pencil on it.

IPad Air 1 is not very similar to iPad 2017! new iPad have:
2x RAM amount
2x CPU performance boost
20x GPU Metal boost
More brighter
Touch ID

Only the case is similar...and multitasking and drag&drop on new iPad IOS 11 run great

Similar on the outside but different inside :). Air has A7 processor with 1 GB Ram while iPad 2017 has A9 with 2 GB. The user experience will be vastly better on the 2017 iPad.

My bad :)

This is a video that show how run iOS 11 on iPad 2017 and iPad Pro 9.7.
The only limitation is that when you run 2 apps on split window and open a third app... the split windows becomes inactive and gray. (View video at 3.47'')

And iPad 2017 will certainly not last 4 yrs. It will be snappy on iOS 11. And maybe on iOS 12 if you’re lucky. After that it will suck.

My air 2 which came with iOS 8.1 runs as fast or better with iOS 10.3.3. Not bad for going on 3 years old. From what I've heard it does fine on iOS 11. So it'll be at least a 4 year lifespan without issues with my air 2. Maybe longer depending how iOS 12 does. I'd say the 2017 model will last at least 4 years.

Apple Is investing a lot on the A9 CPU + 2gb combination
Today in 2017, on the Apple store there are many NEW device ready to be purchased.... now too.. with this technical specifications:

iPhone SE A9+2GB RAM
iPhone 6s A9+2GB RAM
iPad 9.7 A9+2GB RAM (released on march 2017)
iPad Pro A9x+2GB RAM (now refurbished only but sold as new until June 5, 2017)

I do not think these ALL devices will be iOS supported for 2 years only....It would be a BIG mistake for Apple. It will not happen. They will run good with iOS 11,12 and 13....at least.

UPDATE: Today news... Apple recently reported sales of 11.4 million iPads in the June quarter, an increase of 15 percent compared to the year-ago quarter. https://www.macrumors.com/2017/08/03/apple-sold-more-than-just-low-cost-ipads/

I recently traded in my iPad Air 1 for the iPad ‘17 for almost $200 (taxes & Smart Cover included). No regrets. Now running iOS 11 PB3, it’s certainly capable of iOS 12 but iOS 13 might be pushing it.

The 10.5” iPad Pro is good but isn’t great. So I’ve decided to stick with my iPad until Apple removes the headphone jack and further refines the design to makes its price point more enticing to me.

The biggest limit of the new iPad Pro 10.5 are the many apps not optimized for the new resolution. I got the ipp 10.5 at dayone and try it for some days...with terrible eyes strain for the blurry text in the non optimized and scaled apps. When I known that after 2 years Facebook app isn't yet optimized for 12.9 I return 10.5 and got the iPad 2017 with no regret and save 330€. My eyes still thanks me for the text sharp...again.

You’re wrong. Period.

The Air 2 was the first IPad with 2 GB RAM. The first iPad with 4 GB RAM came long after.

The iPad 2017 is probably the last IPad to habe 2 GB RAM.

The Air 2 and IPad 2017 will probably both go obsolete together. And if not, the 2017 model would slow down to a crawl if a new iOS version doesn’t even support Air 2.

So if you’re saying IPad 2017 will last 4+ years, that’s almost 8 yrs for the Air 2. Won’t happen.

The Air 2 may last 6-7 yrs. But iOS 11/12 will be the last iOS snappy on it. iOS 13 is likely to be laggy. The same goes for all devices with 2 GB RAM.

4 GB RAM devices can only become obsolete through planned obscoloscence in the near future.

They will be supported for 4-6 yrs.

But after the first 2 yrs, the performance would suck. Suck bad.

IPad Air has been supported for 4 yrs. But iOS 9 onwards it was laggy and sucked. A pain.

Air 2 runs iOS 11 better than Air 1 ran iOS 9.

I'm wrong period? Lol ok so you are all knowing. You do know apples current top of the line non plus model iPhone only has 2 gig of ram ?

Why not? Cause Apple purposely won't let it? What more can be added to iOS to make the air 2 obsolete? Maybe it is time to let hardware last until the hardware gives out. Not sure what they could add after iOS 11 that would make me move on to another iOS for my air 2 to jeopardize performance.

My iPad Air 1 it's the last iPad with 1GB of Ram...
born on 2013 with iOS7...and get iOS 8, 9 and 10 without problems.

The fact that Apple as released an ipad with 4gb of RAM does not mean that all other ios devices become old tomorrow. iPhone 7 has 2gb of RAM also...

You returned a device for the Facebook app?!

You returned a device for the Facebook app?!

Facebook was an example only...the 90% of apps on App Store are not optimized for 10.5 resolution...including large use apps as Facebook that after 2 years don't yet optimized for 12.9. This for explain that the time for update apps is not short but it will require years, not months.

In addition.... promotion is more fast of the response time of LCD screen generating motion blur And eyes strain. But this is OT here...there is another thread.
