At least once a week, perhaps more often, when editing with the Photo app, after about 10 minutes my 2017 iPad shuts down. I can turn it straight back on again but surely this shouldn’t be happening. iPad Air 2 never did that. Anyone else? You think I should return it?

If it still happens I’d try to replicate the issue and submit to Apple. Since it may use metal for some of the rendering effects it, if it happens again, it could be a firmware issue. I tried playing in photos on my iPad (been using it heavily today) and no issues yet. As Akash mentioned it may be a glitch and just need a restore :)

thanks slooksterPSV and Akashi.nu. I followed your advice and did a reset as a new iPad. So far no shut downs since but it’s screen flickering as I navigate through Google Photos. This was following some time spent
with heavy graphics use. Do you think this is normal? I’m not usually this paranoid. I don’t recall the Air 2 ever doing this. Appreciate your opinions.

It’s hard to say. Could just be an app optimisation issue, especially when you’re using third party apps. I’ll try on mine and see what happens. I just use google photos for secondary backup.

that’s true Akash, so I’ll proceed cautiously for now with an eye on how hot it feels. Hope it’s a third party app thing. Thank you so much for your input. Happy New Year
